Just wondering How u guys insure a car with engine conversion. I am currently with Justcar insurance company. I called them up this morning to find out what I have to do if I am going to put a b16a to my EG5. He asked me an engineer cert. for the conversion. Otherwise my car will not be able to cover.
Q.1 Do u guys report to the insurance company for the engine conversion?
Q.2 what insuance company u are with?
Q.3 Do u guys need Enginner cert. for your insurance?
thx

If you do a online quote with JustCars, there a option for "Engine Conversion" as a extra option.

If it's an eg5 then you wont need an engineering certificate because you're not changing the displacement too much. Just get it mod plated and tell them everything is done correctly and you have a mod plate installed. Then send them a pic of the whole engine bay with the plate visible then a close up so they can read it. Had a similar issue when they asked about mine
oh and that was with justcar as well

Suncorp/GIO cover them as "Increased Power Output" which depending on what other mods you've done with it e.g. ecu change, change of exhaust etc will incure a fixed (additional) excess. (mind you everything must be complianced and roadworthy).
My Eg was covered by Just car and same thing, just had a higher excess..
Best thing to do is to call around because different companies have different requirements/terms and conditions.

im with justcar. when i put my b16 in my eg4 i just called them up and told them i was putting a b16a2 in my eg and they were all fine with it and just added $28 to my premium
no mod plates (do i need a mod plate, always been a bit hazy about that one),no engineer cert....so yeh ive declared to them i have a b16 in it,wether i will be fully insured if i crash is a different story.im seriously starting to doubt that i would get much $$ back at all if i was in an accident considering all the modifications ive done.starting to think the insurance is a waste of money
