as everyone knows, toyota has an engine with the 'VVTL-I'
is this the same concept as the variant honda VTEC? is it that toyota have tried to 'mimic' this notion and have not done an excellent job of it?

just out of curiosity.

BTW Honda wasn't the first to come up with the idea of varible valve timing. It had been around for years before the first VTEC's arrived. It's just I think honda were the first to sucsesfully market and deploy the technology.

Correct. Honda were the first to mass produce a productiong engine with variable valve LIFT
