S12 X-force Twin loop muffler on DC4 (Thanks FEL12X)
Welding done @ TruFit exhausts, Moorabbin - $40, definitely the cheapest and best place to get it done. Called up a few places where I got quoted from 70 - 100+. Talk to Dave or pm me for details.

Quick Review:
Sounds fantastic coupled with the short ram intake. Definitely not raspy at all but a deep growl, and I can feel a power bump down low most probably due the fact that I've gone from the restrictive stock muffler to a straight through style design - twin loop. Idle sounds like stock with a low purr and has a deep sound up till ~4k revs as you will be hearing the intake from there onwards. You could probably get by un-noticed if you never go WOT. Overall, a very good product I'd recommend to everyone.

Few pictures (sorry phone quality only):

Sound clips:
(Used phone to record, so not best of quality)

Both cold starts, with second one mildly warmer. Revs were max of ~5k

Normal temperature sound clips [depending on demand];

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Main problem/Noob question: I don't really like how it is not tucked in looking flush but sticking out.
So does cutting/shaving the muffler tip affect sound?
As above, I think my muffler tip extends too far out (~5cms) - not sure if this is normal as the muffler brand is viewable.

Thinking about spending a few bucks shaving the muffler tip so that it is tucked in, giving it a cleaner look. Will this affect anything?

sound wont be afffected if you're cutting a small amount off..

think of it as , blowing into a pipe thats 50cm's in length, then blowing into a pipe thats 5metres in length. you'll notice a difference, but look at the difference in length

all the best

Sounds logical, cheers. Anyone know how much they should be charging for this to be done?

you may as well get a new tip welded...

you noticed your tip is actually hollow type? if you snip that it'll look like you welded on a tip over another one...

anyways will be waiting for sound clip :)

okay.. now that you ahve pics up.. i think that might chagne the situation.. take another picture of the tip's inside bit and zoom in.. we'll see how it goes

aight, will do that tomorrow since its too dark now :thumbdwn:

Thanks

EDIT: Main question now is, whether it should it be cut or just left as is... The more I look at other aftermarket mufflers, the more 'normal' mine looks now lol.

Twin loops sound like the perfect muffler. Not too loud yet decent power gains? There must be cons/a catch...?

Was it $40 to just mount the muffler on with no extra piping (stock 1.75" piping)? Or did you change the piping size from cat-back to fit the muffler's inlet size (2.25" i think). Thats pretty cheap..

Just to mount to 2" piping I think. I'd definitely recommend these guys though.

Just an update:

With regards to the exhaust tip being too long, I have called up TruFit exhausts (the guys who welded it for me) today and they said will they be able to shorten it for me tomorrow.

The question now is, how/what I should cut so as to shorten the length of the tip.

Now as you can see from this picture:
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg95/speak_english/DSC00030-1-1.jpg
The outer outlet has what seems to be a non-perforated part the size of what the 'xforce' badging on top is. I was wondering whether it would be ok to slice this part off?

Another option is to cut he mid pipe of the muffler off and re-weld it back together so that its lost the middle section of the pipe. Hence a shorter overall muffler.

Which is he best option to shorten the tip length. As in the one that will not bear any changes in sound/performance.
Cheers.

get a new tip... rewelding in the middle will be impossible because they won't be able to do the inside (the perforated part), cutting the tip will make it look like a tip in a tip.. kinda like the dc2r muffler...

your tip is "hollow" as in:

Thanks for the detailed picture, I understand what you mean by 'hollow' now. So overall it is possible for me to cut the tip, but it will just look like a "tip in a tip". Maybe it will look better, will have to have a look at dc2r mufflers.

Thanks heaps dsp, i still owe you a sound clip..

I'll post pics of what it looks shortened tomorrow.

didn't they just used to cut off the entire tip and reweld it to the muffler?

Very noob with this but i don't think they can do this with mine since it perforated?

i could be wrong, might be thinking of the older style xforce mufflers(round ones, first versions that trav from underground imports was selling heaps of)
i doubt the perforations in the tip of that particular twinloop do much if any at all.. the sound muffling properties come with the design of the twinloop itself

ah i see.. well hopefully the exhaust/muffler guy knows what hes doing. Will take a few shots of the finished product tomorrow. Thanks again for your help!

UPDATE: In the end the ended up cutting the mid section of the muffler and welding it back on like this:
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg95/speak_english/DSC00046.jpg

Looks much better now that its not sticking out so much =)

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg95/speak_english/DSC00048.jpg

It probably sticks out about 1cm now. This pic was an angled shot.

It's obviously been welded crooked.

I'd take it back dude! I'm super picky with stuff like that, but if you're not too worried about it then its probably not worth the bother.

$40 bucks thats pretty cheap mate, but then the tip is abit out , they didnt charge extra for redo the tip? anyway...

Just some info update here (XFORCE S12 MUFFLER)

The tip inside is not hollow, its filled with fibre glass to redues exhaust noise as well, act like a tiny muffler

all S12 / S10 are with tip like this, we call it double walled and all xforce muffler that said to have double walled tip have fibre glass filled

**info supplied by XFORCE**

looking good brodda, cept yeh crooked.. lolz

ill be getting one maybe for a later project maybe later on in the year... =)
hehehe

DC4Integra98

Yep wasn't charged extra for the job hence probably the poor workmanship.

The tip only looks a bit out of place if you get down on the ground, level with the muffler. Otherwise you probably wouldn't notice it, hence my laziness/no time to head back out to fix it. Might take a shot at normal/everyday eye level.

So far the muffler is fantastic. Sound clips will definitely be up 25th Wednesday.

yah... all other brands with that type tip i've come across have them filled... my point was that it wasn't a solid piece of metal that could easily be welded properly.

Do you have a sound clip btw? DC2Integra98 got my hopes up in bumping the thread and still no sound clip :p
