How do you decide when it's worn apart from looking at it visually? I've never noticed these to die as this is something I usually just change every 50,000km or so... my current one is well under that.

I notice misfire sometimes on partial throttle to WOT from warm temp idle... and i'm thinking maybe I should attribute it to this.

Also I happen to have a ricey clear distributor cap as a result of my external coil setup.... but because I can see through it, i noticed that my rotor tip is glowing red/orange as it spins visually making a glowing ring as it spins inside the dizzy cap, i've never ever seen this before... is this a sign it needs to be replaced? maybe it's not conducting properly because its hot?

look for craks on the rotor and dizzy cap

clean exsessive carbon build up from the cap and rotor

did you get the ricey rotor button also? maybe its not working properly?
p.S i got them also they seem to be working fine in my car. Running OEM coil

its probably not glowing red, just gives the effect that it is because everytime it goes past 1 of the 4 points on the rotor cap it lets a little spark jump, probably gives the effect that its glowing red when moving so fast.

for misfire - check for cracks in dizzy cap and clean buildup on rotor button and points in dizzy cap,
could also be caused by - dying spark plugs/ spark plug leads, Ignition control module, coil, dirty injectors

this is sorted... i replaced it tonight.

the old rotor had a massive burnt chunk gone from the peak of the arc of the rotor contact.

this is probably the only oem honda item i'd say is pretty shit... it's got donductive material inside a circuit board like material that deteriorated and was lighting up.

this was replaced with a cheap Vision motorworks item that was of solid metal for the contact area instead.

will post pics soon...

could be attributable to your aftermarket coil,or maybe even non standard gapping on the rotor to cap contacts with the new cap.

mine had prob never been replaced after 100k & i just gave it a light file to remove the light pitting & it came up good as new.

yeah i was considering that about the coil, but i get this feeling your most likely right about the plug gap being more the issue...

my theory is that the wider gap increased resistance and the spark areas within the dizzy cap became the highest flowing area for the coil to leak most of its power.. but then again the dizzy contacts had no abnormalities like the rotor did.

both rotor/dizzy cap are only $25-30k km old....

the spark actually looked pretty neat ron :p
good to see you've fixed it though
