View Full Version : Which brand for HID headlights?
Just wondering which brand of HID headlights you guys use.
Have any of you guys used the slim kits from the traders Auto Concepts, X3E Motorsports or Mu Secret? or even the MTEC xenon hids?
I'm thinking of getting a set soon, care to share experiences or pics? Thanks!

the rule is the higher K temp the less 'bright' it'll be
4300 is OEM colour for maximum output
6000 is a v.popular one cuz like daylight but won't b brighter than ur ones if thats what ur thinking.
if u ever noticed some of the guys rocking 8000K. it's really dark infront of their cars.

Alright, i'll contact him about them. Do you think they're bright enough (like in rainy conditions)? What colour did you get if you don't mind me asking?

Yeh, i'm looking into the difference between 35w and 55w kits and whether it's worth it.

wouldnt it also depend on the brand of HID? Even with same specs, some brands seems to be brighter?

maybe?
some ppl say they're all the same.
better brands probably = longer usage
maybe ur not aiming ur's right?
Shimian, aren't you using projectors?
Isn't that suppose to make the HIDs brighter (compared to reflectors) coz they're 'projected' onto the road.
Coz I'm thinking of getting projectors myself to reduce glare but more importantly increase the effectiveness of HIDs.

i have had 8000k and 6000k for different cars and they are both heaps heaps bright...
people say HID's are bad in the rain but i found these worked way better then my stock lights...

well... if ur comparing ur's to a factory equipped HID setup ur guna lose
the only way around it is to retrofit
(i'm assuming u have a aftermarket HID kit here)

HID on projector headlight, makes the light much more focus but not brighter. i think HID is better to be used with projector but still good with stock headlight.
i am using 6000k on projector headlight

do you have a pic of your 6,000k? Im thinking of changing, not for brightness, but for funkyness
How much and where did you guys get your projectors from? Was it easy to install?
Did you guys get it from ebay (nabobery / thespeedline.com)?

HID withour projecter? issnt that illegal? you need projecter else your HID will spread accross and blind others. Thats why HID by law need to also have auto level and washer(crap).
I am using project mu atm. 6k. its really bright and one of the well worth for me. For pratical go 4k... for looks + use go 6k.. Anything above 8k are looks and fashion.. no use.. in the rain?? dead....

Even if you do have projectors it's still illegal. The fact of the matter is if it's not properly engineered or from factory it's illegal.
But people will still install them either for practicality or for looks. I guess some people are more considerate than others (by installing projectors or lowering the aim).
I probably gonna be looking for 4750k or 5000k ones. Still has a bit of the looks as well as the whiteness.
Gotta find out which brand is better though.

lol Philip one is never wrong. but from autobarn it cost $600 just for the ballaster which is excluding the bulb around 1k in total to fit it. There is also a german brand which is really expensive but really bright. someone here bought the parker which is like $80 off ebay.
Look for some HID dealer in sydney, at least you can claim any warrenty easy. Project mu is pretty decent for me and its bright.

oo sorry.. its mu secret from the trader here..
Yeh true, should be able to change them.
Might go for some slightly cheaper 6k kits then, coz I dun really want to spend a lot on a kit.
Coz i'm probably gonna get some projectors too.

aren't bellof HID kits like $1000+?
I was only thinking about spending within $100-$250.
Considering I got a kit before for like AU$70 from China, that was actually quite good but i'm willing to spend a little bit more this time to get a better quality kit and with warranty.
hey howy have you managed to get your hids yet? if so what did you get?

Nope, deciding to stick with my Mtec halogen and parkers for the time being.
But i'll probably either go ebay or get a set from applio.
I personally don't see a point going for a set that costs $200+.

If you do end up doing it, do it properly and do a projector retrofit so it doesn't blind people.

After the FD meet a few days ago, Im convinced I need those white headlights you guys have. Im leaning towards the Phillips Crystal Vision, but what HID kits do guys recommend as I might consider it.
