View Full Version : keep comfort on a slammed ride?

Ok I'm thinking about slamming a 98 acura cl which has an awesome suspension, but I don't want to sacrafice ride comfort. I was thinking of getting tein coils, but I have been told that their coils are bouncy. My other option is to get springs with aftermarket struts.

Is there a way to still maintain the comfort or is it pointless to try?

Another person who wants their car to be 'slammed, handle like a go kart, but still be smooth as stock'? Can't happen.

'Slamming' will cause all sorts of problems and is really a silly thing to do if you want to maintain either good handling or a pleasant ride comfort. If the suspension is currently "awesome" then why change it just to make a (very) dubious fashion statement?

PS there is no such thing as a "bouncy" spring, only springs that are mated to dampers that are too weak to control the spring. This isn't the fault of the spring or the damper (unless worn / blown), but on a poorly considered matching of the spring and damper. This happens with any spring mated to a worn / blown damper, or to a stiffer spring mated to a less than stiff enough damper.

another way also would be airbag suspension, which would get it low and comfortable, wouldnt help your haldling though, most likley make it a bit slugish

What about a 2inch drop via tein springs with koni adjustable struts

bouncy? i dont get that part, tein coil in general allow you up to 16 level of damper setting. Although (as a tein user) I find tein not hard enough.

Harder setting = bouncy
Softer setting = bouncy

With 16 level, i believe you can find a comfort setting level of yours.

Don't assume that just because there are a large number of 'clicks' that there is actually a large range of stiffness adjustment. If the difference between one click and the next click is very small, then the difference between the first click and the last click isn't neccessarily all that great.

Koni dampers (with no 'clicks') have a substantially greater range of rebound stiffness adjustment than most other dampers (including those incorporated into 'coil-overs'), and no bump adjustment (not as important as rebound). Most dampers that do have a bump stiffness adjustment actually have very little bump stiffness adjustment range, however many clicks there may be...

agree. "Range" of clicks does not necessarily mean "Range" of bound adjustment.

EG every adjustable coilover setup i have know has had a "range" of clicks , but very little change in "range" of bound adjustment.
The more you pay , the better quality valving and more than likely adjustment too

well agree.. its a fact in suspension that the more you pay the more you get.

my reference to Tein are because they are entry level coilover. So unless u wan to pay more.

I was looking into tein or HKS coils.

Let me clear something, what yall call slammed is when the car is as low as possible on coils I think. We call that being dump'd, slamming means just lowering your car. Sorry for misleading yall.

I think you'll find that very many people think of 'slammed' and 'dumped' as more or less interchangeable terms, despite others possibly percieving there to be a more subtle difference between them (either a regional or cultural difference in the nuance of definition).

Persoanlly, I think of a reduction in ride height that is enough to improve handling and subtly enhance appearance without causing silly problems to be 'lowering', and anything more to be 'dumped' or 'slammed'...

Get air bags its really low when you want it to be yet very comfortable and stock height when you want it as well! Ive had bags in mine for about a year now and its as comfortable ride as standard with adjustable shocks to set how hard or soft your ride to be at any level! it is actually possible to have a slammed yet comfortable ride!i just proved a lot of people wrong!

guys the LOWER you go , the reduced suspension travel and reduced ride comfort and handling ability.
