i know its been covered, and i did a search to try and find an answer. but all answers are different, jus wanted to state the issue myself..

the problem is once the car is warmed up, when the clutch is out, a slight clicking noise can be heard if u stick ur head near the wheels.. and when the clutch is put in, its gone..

while driving the noise doesnt seem to be there.

some have said it could be the input bearing shaft.. or gearbox bearing, or clutch bearing??

anyone have ideas on how much it would be to get fixed??
is it a major problem? car has done 145000kms

doest he noise go away if you hold it at friction point?

yeahhh its only when the clutch is out..

sometimes the gears are a bit rough.

will changing the gearbox oil do anything to help at all??

I'd have to agree with the othe guys - Input shaft bearing.
If you can hear it while driving, try this: (You'll need a nice quiet long road)
Get it up to cruising speed in say, 2nd gear.
Put the clutch in and see if the nopise dissappears or if the pitch of it changes.
If it goes away, it's the input shaft bearing. Otherwise it could be something in the box.

Hope that helps, but sounds like it might not be loud enough to hear when you are driving.

i have similar issue, sonds like very fast clicking noisne and wen clutch is put in, its fine, no noise at all, but also when i drive, it makes a grinding noise whilst in gear like something savage

input shaft bearings all round

i have a similar problem with my gbox...

unfortunately, the noise and the problem will get worse and worse with time (driving)...in worse case scenarios, when the clutch pedal is put back in, the noise doesn't disappear immediately, as the input and counter shafts inside the gearbox are still spinning due to inertia, and the bearing just keeps making noise...

when the bearing fails completely, thats when shit will seriously break, so be careful, get it fixed

bearing noise when clutch is out = input shaft bearing (also called spiggot bearing by some people)

bearing noise when clutch is in = thrust bearing (also called release bearing by some people)

labour to take gearbox off car (and back again) = $300

labour to take gearbox apart , and take out and replace input shaft bearing = $100-300

parts = new input shaft bearing , new transmission fluid = total $80-90.

So "about" $5-700 at a workshop
