hey guys i recently removed my old head unit and tried to install the new one, however i am having problems. when my head unit is connected to + and - there are small sparks.

is there a potential rlectrical problem with the car?? or wiring? i have also noticed the clock resets everytime i turn on/off ignition. and also the ciggerete plug giving me problems too.. any ideas? only started happening after i removed the head unit. cheers

You have a short. Where is the power wire that used to go into the headunit?

all four wires (+battery, ground, acessories and ignition) are there, the problem must be further back? which wire is likey to be the source of the problem?

cheers

Did you cut off the factory plug?

Because a plug and play adapter for aftermarket stereos are like $10 from JB HiFi, but for it to work you need to have the factory plug still on the wiring loom.

if the +battery, accessories or ignition wire would to touch anything metal on your car, you would get a short! Isolate each one individually using electrical tape to tape up the exposed wires and see if you still have the problem.

with the clock check the fuse in the engine bay.. thats most probably blown.

then use a test light again and try and find the memory/constant power wire.

with dc2 and egs.. what i find if the clock aint working right... if mucks the constant power aswell..

if not just run a separate constant power from ur amp.. if you're running one..

re cehck all your fuses aswell

yeah i noticed problems with the clock and head unit constnt power issues about the same time.they are most likely to be related, i just checked the fuse in the engine bay and ur right the back up fuse was blown =S i now replaced it and the clock is working fine, i will test to see if the headunit works again. cheers dude.. thanks

yeah i choped off the factory plug, when installing my new head unit, thats strange because i kept the factory plug on with my old head unit and it was working fine then when i installed my new one minus the factory plug it didnt work..but i dont believe thats the source of the problem..ive never heard of that, every one cuts the factory plug, when i had it professionally installed and thats the 1st thing they did..lol
