ok most people agree that there are alot of "waste of time & money" mods out there.
ebay performance chips
hiclones & similar moving and non moving types.
what about these ??
tablets that you put into your fuel tank that contain additives to increase performance & fuel economy. *can be found almost anywhere from ebay to flea markets.
so called "super magnets" that you clip onto your fuel line, that supposedly align molecules etc as the fuel passes along the line giving more combustability.
magnets to put onto your oil filter to get rid of contaminents tat it usually wouldnt pick up, somehow giving better performance.
anything else people can thing of ??

well IMO most EBAY no-name branded strut bars , intakes or headers are a waste of time. Weaker materials used and no real improvement.

lol don't go there... that was my exact argument point all those years ago when i thought they worked... although i can possibly see it working on a leaded petrol system thoguh?

i have seen several brands around starting with the one on the hicloneqld stie.
but what gets me is that they all recommend different strengths of magnet (measured in gauss???) and some say u need 1 oters say u need 2 magnets.
also anyone tried that fuelstar thingy on the hicloneqld site. the inline canister thingy?
also anyone heard of this pulsing sparkplugs
http://www.pulstarplug.com/index.html
speaking of spark plugs, iridium, bosch super4's etc any of them any good, or all just hype and a waste of money.

speaking of spark plugs, iridium, bosch super4's etc any of them any good, or all just hype and a waste of money.
Different plugs for different applications.
Regular copper lasts 20,000km (1 year)
Platinums last 60,000km (3 years)
Iridiums last 120,000km (6 years)
So you'd use Iridiums and Platinums if your car was pretty stock and running well. If it was heavily modified and burning lots of fuel or running leaner, you want copper or maybe platinums, because you will be changing them every year because of wear!
For the Super4, it depends on the engine. For a 4-valve per cylinder engine, I don't really see the benefit. But for a 2-valve pushrod, which does benefit for sparkplug indexing, then the Super4 would be helpful!

What about those hairdryer fans you strap to your intake.. awesomm,.
Spoon or Skunk2 Magnetic Sumps Plugs are useful arent they? i.e basically worth the same way as those magnetic drain bolts i believe depending on strength

They are the same, just different brands. Pick which bling you want. :)
Oh crap... i meant work same way as those magnetic things that stick onto ur oil filter... lol. and that worth= work

Waste of time mods:
1) Open pod filters that suck hot air in the engine bay= Only induction noise gains
2) Adjustable cam gears on stock cams with stock head & block (unshaved) & stock head gasket
3) Reservoir covers for street use= Engine Bay Bling lol

I'd put it on if I had an iron block/pistons. But since my engine is alloy, I don't expect the magnetic plugs to catch much..... If you do catch things that are ferrous (piston ring, cam etc), I'd be more worried... Good as a diagnostic tool to detect that though.

hmmmm just curious... if your engine is alloy.... what are the sleve's made from? I'm pretty sure they're made from iron.... in which case i'd dare say that the sump plugs would be a worthwhile investment. being that iron shaving's will accumulate at the bottom of the sump
do we have any testimonial's out there? anyone know if iron filing's have been found on their magnetic sump plugs?
Dunno but at next service (2weeks) will try =] and tell ya how it goes (long time). Most probably using skunk2.

hahahaha, this is like the price difference between a type R and a vti-r
the extra 20kw or whatever difference might only be 20kw's but it's a very smart 20kw.

they work... i get some fine shavings every oil change.
also those Pulstar Pulse Plugs are the real deal... i've researched those thoroughly and will be purchasing a set soon solely to witness for myself the claimed increase in mileage, response gains are a bonus... they work the same as the nology hotwires but lasts longer... the nology capacitor leads were proven but suffered deterioration in a short period... both have independent dyno proven gains

i disagree with 2 because power can be had through overlap and to reduce overlap on turbo applications.. though just not worth the effort unless you already know some specific magic dial that someone gave you.
3 because alot of pre-2000 cars i see these days have some sort of moisturised buildup of fluid on or around the reservoir especially on the bonnet above the area....
B16 conversion $3k for 20kw.. pfft
3k?unless your doing alot of the work yourself, thats pretty cheap..
also moving upto a b series is alot more that the +20kw.. more responsive engine and changes the complete feel of the car when you drive it. also it gives you braggin rights about having vtec! :p

i got the sump plug and they work.
I used the magnetic stuff and they seem to work (suprised also)
I used that radioactive ioniser which worked also (very suprised)
Now that i am using the PFC i haven't seen any change if i put them on or off, only seem to work with the stock ECU. Dun ask i dunno why also

do they do anything? or just for show.

its interesting to see how some of the 'nah this shit doesn't work' seems to be toppled over with some good information.
Ill also agree that magnets on oil filters and magnetic sump plugs do a little bit, as little as it is - its always better than nothing considering the fact not only do your bearings wear out on the bottom end as well as your oil pump etc - tiny tiny shavings of metal float around in your oil - its always better than nothing to get as much as you can.
Cam gears on stock cams - there are claim with correct dial-ins you can achieve between 5-10HP gains on stock cams - don't just install them and muck around with them yourself unless you know 'EXACTLY' what the correct settings are - you could go backwards and loose power if set incorrectly.
Best invest in some dyno time, and get them done by a pro. But as always better gains come with more mods, so while stock cams with gears might get you 5-10HP - a nice set of cams will always get you more and so on...

so true... and now it makes me wonder why theres no magnetic plug for an oil catch can... i emptied a quarter full catch the other day (6mths of 9200rpm) and there was plenty solid bits in there, presumably dirt and/or metal shavings... scary stuff...

engine swap .. pfft who needs to get to work or uni quicker den usual LOL
rims .. who are we trying to impress, da cops and potholes?
exhaust .. cant sneak home at night without having to wake everyone up
coilovers ... making enymy's with speed bumps and driveways or transforming the car into a 4wd after a defect =p
all up , i reckon a reasonable 50-100kw gained for sure at the hubcaps

what are u trying to say??? i don't really understand ur point... lol
everything u listed there are worthwhile mods when done correctly
if done wrong they can go the other way completely though

No, b16 is the most overrated thing on this site. To be honest, if i had listened to ozhonda and bought a b16, i would be crying i just wasted 3k.
IMHO the only worthwhile performance mod, with the best bang for buck, would be a turbo. Even with low boost, not making more peak power than a b16, ull still have torque.

one thing that gets me, I dont care if it works or not, or if it cools down your fluids or not.
THOSE FKN SOCKS IN THE ENGINE BAY!
a little peice of stretched cotton with a mugen logo over your power steering pump, fkn useless and looks PATHETIC. if you have them, please take em off, wash them and put em back on your feet.
better yet, take em off and burn them, and wear thongs .

THey are imagining that they can generate enough lateral G to spill their brake fluid! Hahahaha...
Oh, and they are flame retardant, not cotton. They don't burn with a flame.
