Hello Ozhonda,

In between cleans, I notice black spots on my car near the exhaust (on the rear bumper and the boot lid etc.).

What is causing these spots to appear?

I'm worried that it's something to do with the piston rings wearing away due to lack of/old engine oil, but even after I changed the oil, it's still happening.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

ammm , not sure how to explain it

but i belive its due to its a combustion engine

all i know is its somethign to do with moisture in the exsuast and the vapour / fumes

not sure if that made sense

carbon is a natural by product of the petrol engine then is gets vented through the exhaust so there is no way to stop it. but i think you can buy some additive shit from autobarn to get rid of it

Thanks for replies.
Good to hear it's not doing any harm.

Was just a bit worried, because I don't see it on my parents' cars.

do you have a bigger exhaust on your car. coz you really only see it on cars with after factory or bigger exhausts

maybe switch over to BP ultimate?

that may actually help
when i was using shell in my turbo set up i'd get shiet everywhere and real dark

with bp ultimate i was still getting shiet everywhere but not as dense

oh then i got it tuned and it minimised even more lol

It's a combination of carbon and fuel. Not to worry, stock cars generally run rich which may explain black dots. Normally after tuning or an ECU reset it'll go away, but only temporarily in the case of a reset.

yea i get shit loads of carbon on my car as well

usually would signify your car running a tad rich , only a normal thing though really~ not to worry about

Haha, good to know many people get this as well.

I only use the 98octane from Safeway/Caltex (Vortex, I think?), and sometimes the 98octane from BP.
