Thanks guys

DIY FTW.

Or get some of that premade head shield stuff.

I guess it does the job.

If defected, get a stock airbox

go to any fabrication or engineering place. get a piece of aluminium or stainless steel to make a cover plate. checker plate would be nice.

you can bolt it in front to ur headlights bolts and to the pillar support in back where is looks like u have 2 nutsets already.

If the inspectors know what they're doing then the main reason they wanna see a stock airbox is to reduce intake noise. A shroud won't do much at all.

Correct.

It's "noise pollution" that they also shit on you for..

Try honbits / Hontoys for a stock airbox, or ask around here, someone might be able to lend you theres for a fee / something.

As for taillights, replace the globes / do what you must to make them orange..

If not, try the places above for tail lights.

Or do the smart thing, EK9 Tail lights FTMFW!!!!

they sell air filter covers at supercheap auto and prob autobarn. there $15 each.

dunno about sizes, but if its bolted down securily, you should pass.

I'd throw the stock airbox back in , doesnt take long anyways.

do a DIY.
Cut out cardboard to shape the frame and use aluminium to fabricate a box. Then rivet it together to hold and make a bracket to support it to the chassis.

As for the fabrication for the air box, i made one up for my EM1 sealed and bolted in firmly and also got it engineered (wasnt noise pollution) and i still get defected for it... so it dosnt matter if its a defect or not, if the cop dosnt know what he is talking or he just dosnt care and wants to defect you then he will

well having it engineered will just make it that you get off from any trouble with the law. even though cops cant F you over anyhow, so it is ridiculous.

Did you paint your box black or was it still aluminium coloured?

Even if it was stock from the factory, cops can still defect you. It is at the pits where they clear your defects that your engineering cert comes into play.

all in all, you lose anyways!

NO box was sprayed same colour as the car (black) it looked like it belonged on the car and a pipe just went into the fender

Tell that to the cops.

cause cops more likely defect you for having exposed pods.

when you have it covered they may think twice before issuing, and it also does reduce induction noise slightly.

can someone explain why its illegal anyway to have an uncovered pod? is it a fire hazard or something>?

Fire hazard through backfire back up the intake and defeating noise reduction equipment (removal of intake resonator).

It is different for each state. In Vic, you can legally have an exposed dry pod.

supposedly, reduce fire hazard.
mainly from oil based pods like K&N.

but applies to all exposed pods.

The fire hazard is not as bad with fuel injected engines (otherwise we would have many reports of Accord Euros and TSXs setting themselves on fire), but was a real danger with carby engines. This is a nice example of a blanket rule. :(

Bad luck for QLD'ers..... Intake mods are not listed in there, so they fall under specific modifications, which need prior written approval. :( On the bright side, there is no limit to rim size, you can use a 22" rim legally as long as you find a tyre that keeps the overall rolling diameter no larger than 15mm compared to stock.
