Ok, I'm under the new P plate laws, which car do you guys recommend for speed. Doesn't necessarily have to be a Honda.
Thanks.

Hmmmm

N/A Silvia's are nice and have (IMHO) Alot of power and i find fun to drive (just Beware if your are 6"1+)

You might be able to pick up a S2k for around the 20-25k Budget aswell

A Toyota corolla Sx is nice (I heart the sss's one is bery noice)

Seeing as you have 20k budget and may choose to stick with honda (and if you want to do some work) Buy a 84-91 Civic/Crx and do a B18c or B20 Swap (IMHO)

Will get some wicked times then and once you're on your full license turbo will only improve things :D

mate easy build an eg with a k swap. pick up a real nice eg for around 6500, 12000 for a k swap. and you ll be good to chew any turbo or v8 from the factory no worries. youll smoke most slightly mod turbos (eg) skylines, supras, evos. and when you want to sell you will still get good money for it!

Buy a SSS and put some chromies on it and try to race every car with an exhaust that you see, but still lose because you suck.

i believe under P laws they cannot have any modifications to the car?
Pretty sure no Turbos also or V8s

I'd buy a dc2r - they are just under $20k (for a good condition stock one), and are fast out of the box

If ya wanna go fast, go to the track. You're not giving P platers a good name with the stereotypical "I wanna fast car".

For a serious response I'd go a Teg as well.

i think you should verify why you would wasnt a fast car under the p plate law.. otherwise u will get flamed alot on here.. if ur gonna be doing all ur hard driving on the tracks etc. i suggest a type r.. good track car from factory imo. if ur gonna do it on the streets do yourself a favour and dont buy a car.

So lets get this right, you have hardly any driving experience, and you have $25K at your disposal, and you want to buy the fastest legal car around?

Why dont you learn to drive for a few years instead of adding to the road statistics? save your money and probably some other road users life first, driving like a nut on "P" plates will only cost you far more than you bargain for (death, destruction or walking due to loss of licence), its also the type of behaviour that gives modified car owners a bad name.

Go back to your basic first. It's not good to start off with a fast car that you have no experience in handling. Also, you won't learn much as well. An EG should be a good kick start for you. Consider EG Si or VTi as the learning platform.

dont u love how everyone now raves on how bad p plater drivers are ect. half my mates when they were on there p's drove turbo charged cars, we all still have our licences and are still fine. now just becuase its not legal to do it everyone thinks its outragous for ppl to even think of wanting to drive a turbo car at that age and gets labeled as an idiot. bit hipercritical dont u think? im sure if u had 25 grand at his age u all would of bought something with abit of balls. ps who says he isnt a 20 year old on his p's?

even so i know at 18 i was driving a turboed civic and at 19 i was driving an evo.

27-06-2008, 02:17 PM
well i agree with Aza, you dont need to start with something slow.
My logic is if you buy a performance type car then its equipt to do what you ask from it, hence the brakes, suspension etc. Most accidents you see are from cars where ppl ask too much of there car which its not capable to do.

Fellas relax i just turned 18, when was the last time you saw a car with a bit of balls crash. It's more a phsycological thing for me, im not gonna be a racing hoon on every road i just want something with a bit balls. I'm a sensible driver as mates of mine have been killed in high speed accidents.
thanks for all your responses. Pretty sure DC5R is at the top of the list for me.

Statistics show that your first car will suffer. I'm not trying to say anyone is a bad driver. So IMO find a neat older car that has that bit of grunt. N/A S13 silvias have plenty enough power IMO as do Commodores and Falcons.
How do P platers drive S2000s? isnt power to weight ratio restrictions 135kw per tonne?

Prohibited vehicles
The prohibited vehicle condition restricts provisional (P1 and P2) drivers from driving certain high performance vehicles. The condition applies to provisional licences issued on or after 11 July 2005. The scheme aims to prohibit young driver access to vehicles that are overrepresented in young driver crashes.

Prohibited vehicles are those with:

Eight or more cylinders (except diesel).
A turbocharged engine (except diesel).
A supercharged engine (except diesel).
Engine performance modifications.
Certain high performance six cylinder engine vehicles or other vehicles as described in the publication Novice Drivers - High Performance Vehicle Restrictions.
