View Full Version : Kings vs Peddars vs Skunk2 - cheap lowering springs

King springs - 350 fitted/alignment, 30-50mm
Peddars - 400 fitted/alignment, 35mm
Skunk2 - 420 fitted, only know its massive drop

Will be fitted to a Honda Integra GSi. These will be running on stock shocks with approximately 130,000km on them.
I'm looking to get it done this weekend can anyone give some quick advice on which on to get or further opinions?

Thanks!

Thanks for the links/feedback

But the main problem with skunk2 is that it lowers the car by quite alot,
2.5" - 2.25". I am currently running 17s with low profiles and my thoughts are that if I were to get skunk2's, I would definitely need to replace my shocks which I currently do not have money for.

Budget atm is $500 :zip:

If your budget is $500 get Ground control then.

Never actually knew/considered "Ground controls". Did a quick google =)

Well at least that way you can set your perfect height using a quality spring and when you can afford it just get some nice shocks.

Your stock shocks will start leaking if you lower it by too much.

Especially on a high rate linear spring, they'll live a very short life.

go the Skunk2, with all lowered springs you will end up needing new shocks, and if you dont want to spend the $$$$ now just get as long out of them as you can :)

Especially on a high rate linear spring, they'll live a very short life.

is that because of the quicker resulting rebound from stiffer linear rate combined with all that happening while already at a lower point?

The stiffer spring will make the rebound valve work harder, and the bump valve work less hard (stiffer spring lessens bump motion in both degree and speed). My understanding is that since the rebound valving will be substantially stiffer than the bump valving (in almost all dampers) the rebound forces (pressures inside the damper) will tend to be higher than those in bump (with possible exception of when hitting very savage bumps).

The rebound valve is the weakest link that you will be working harder with stiffer springs. All else being equal (i.e. quality of the damper), a softer damper rebound rate will allow the valve / seals to last longer, which is at least one reason why stiffer rate dampers need to be of higher quality than dampers with softer rates...

your stock shocks at 130K km, will not last you that long with lowered spring.

LOL @ $420 for Skunk2's....They're over glorified american junk...

I would suggest....

Eibach ProKit (1.3" drop) Under $500
Eibach SportLine (1.7" Drop) Under $500
Spoon Progressives (1.5-2.0 Drop) Got mine from JDM Concept for $499

If you are going to run stock shocks then a progressive spring is a must......the ground control kit is bad for shocks as it isnt progressive and when the settings are changed the preload is much too high for stock shocks and even wear out aftermarket shocks quickly.

Your much better doing your research and waiting and saving for something that is of high quality and best suited to your application...you'll regret buying King/Pedders.

Andrew

Im gonna prob go with kings ... and i will most probably regret it. It seems no local suspension shop can source for any decent spring that can do at least 1.4 inch lowering on my fd1. That is for both front and back.

I have called up every single place ... and teins and eibach only have springs that lower at max 1 inch. Brands like lovells and others havent even got springs made for my car. I will never track ... just daily car ... and all i keep hearing is get a coilover from all suspension shops .. sigh =/.

Kings is just a lucky dip ... you get bad and good.

Did you ring Kmac? They can do custom rates and length.
