View Full Version : [CU2] Would the 09 Euro wagon sell here?
Interesting that in New Zealand Honda is now selling the 09 Euro wagon - it would be great if Honda Oz did the same... :(
Looks so much nicer than the sedan from the rear:

According to Honda, the wagon and the hi tech (i-DTEC) diesel engine could be available next year or something - but as usual they are tightlipped about it.

i read another article where one of the Honda execs in Japan said that the wagon wasnt coming to Oz. They reckon the CRV and Odyssey are better wagons for our market.
I can kinda see the logic in that.

Honda Australia and the guy at the launch said that the wagon is NOT coming to Australia... The diesel is coming when an automatic transmission is available for it...
Kind of sad because I'd buy one right now if I was able to get a Diesel Manual Luxury Navi w/ 17" wheels from the Standard Euro, would have bought one yesterday if I was able to get that as a station wagon :thumbdwn:

It's not coming because of ADR rules i think.

If the Liberty wagon and Mazda6 wagon can meet ADR, then why can't they implement the same child seat mounting system in the Accord wagon?

If Honda Australia let the Euro Wagon to be sold here then it would cannibalize Odyssey sales. But on second thought I don't think so because Odyssey is a 7 seater family car. It would great if Euro Wagon can be sold here, it would give Mazda 6 wagon and Subaru Liberty wagon a tough time to compete.

It may eat into the CRV sales but I don't see why this is so bad since the base model Tourer is $6,000 more than a base CRV
You'd only get an Odyssey if you needed 7 seats... Which if people need 7 seats rules out the CRV and Tourer anyway, it's for a completely different market

I remember reading that Honda Oz currently have no plans to bring it into Oz.
Reason being it may -vely effect Odyssey sales.
It wont hurt Odyssey but it will hurt the CRV but the Tourer is more expensive anyway so it must be a plus for Honda

CRV I think is a totally different market.
Odyssey I feel same market for sure = wagon family car.

I disagree because the Odyssey is a people mover, the equivalent to the Tarago. Not a wagon (which still sits 5 max)

It's got normal doors like a wagon, looks like a wagon.....
I think it's a wagon! :p

The point Im trying to make is they are both 'family' cars, in the same market.
CRV is not.

Doors do not make a people mover. It's the number people it fits. CRV is a family car too. Even the Jazz can be a family car, it sits the same number of people as the CRV and takes luggage.

Yeah, I know. Any car can be a family car....
Odyssey got that mini van stigma (that I think Honda wants to shake).
Honda don't market CRV as family car.
Forget the boxy look of the station wagon, instead indulge in the Odyssey’s cutting edge design.
Anyway, I think they try and market it Odyssey as a wagon. They definately aim at that market anyway. I believe this is why Honda said that they won't bring wagon euro.

7-9 seats = people mover
You don't buy a 7 seater because you have one child or two for that matter... You buy one because you're ****ing horny and have 3 or more kids
If you're infertile and only have one or two kids you buy a 5 seater sedan or wagon; unless you're a redneck then you buy a two seater ute and chuck the kids in the back with the dog

Hahaha! I know what your saying.
My Prado is a 7 seater, but is it a people mover?
(It is just me and the missus by the way)
Bottom line, would Euro wagon sell? Yes!
Would they sell lots? I don't think so.
Will it steal CRV sales? I don't think so.
Will it steal Odyssey sales? Only if you were dead set on getting Honda 'family' car.
I still think it will hurt CRV more than Odyssey
From memory the two rear seats are just like fold out chairs in the cargo bay aren't they?

Ultimately Honda shouldnt be too worried about losing sales to itself?
i doubt this is the major concern, its probably more whether its profit effective in paying the extras to implement the wagon in the line up when they do already have the solutions for people after a wagon available.
It looks great, i'd think about buying one, would be handy having a wagon :)
Theres a forester xt at home, but i cant use it as a "wagon" pity the boots full of stereo lol :(
