broken tranny?

Ok, so today the civic stopped moving. the engine starts and runs but makes a very loud whirring noise and does not go anywhere.

Its an auto 1994 vti sedan.

Nothing happens when i move the lever down to D, R, N or whatever.

Time for a new transmission, or should i be looking elsewhere?

why dont you check if there is sufficent AT fluid in the transmission 1st?

already did, its not that. i changed the transmission fluid about 8000kms ago as it was not changing very smoothly.

the question, i guess, is has anybody encountered this before?, and if so, am I right in saying that its the tranny? the noise is very loud and car does not move.

Just check your auto-transmission shift cable connection by remove front console and check the lock pin of the adjuster
