With the running of the first Superlap event at Oran Park just completed, a big congratulations goes to the team at Hipower Racing for taking out the class championship trophies for:

Open Class - Naturally Aspirated
Open Class - Front Wheel Drive

Having lost the first session to a scurtineering issue needing to be resolved, and losing the majority of the second to a competitor unfortunately rolling their car. The team was left with only the final session to bring home the silverware.

Rob drove the car like a man possessed while the team was left with nothing more but to urge the CRX on. With the limited time, and issues with traffic, Rob still steered the CRX to a best time of 1.19 clinching the class wins. Impressively this is Rob's first time to Oran Park in the Hipower Racing CRX and believed there was more still in the car !

The event had to be the best time attack event ever held in Australia with a huge range of cars coming out to participate. Can't wait for the next one !

not many hondas lol ^^

good work guys

The quality was there though

The Proconcept EK Civic is a weapon of a Honda and like the CRX enjoyed 'bullying' GT-R's and Evolution's in the group.

The team actually expected to be racing with Toda Australia's Civic and Integra which where listed in the initial competitors list - http://www.superlap.com.au/entryopen.html

Can anyone shed light on their abscence from the event. Would of been awesome to see a group of Australia's faster track Honda's have a run together.

hey guys..

last weekend's racing was great. it was our first time in oran park.. great track, awesome event, really good experience..

was abit disappointed that there was so few honda cars racing.. we were surprise to see that there was actually no honda's in the street class at all...

it was great to be able to face off with proconcepts k20a ek9... was a great honour to race with a workshop that does so much good work.

Superlap really brings out the best in Racing from all over australia.but we were really glad that we were able to smash some big name gtrs, Evos etc...

last but not least i would like to thank god.. for the victory which was really a miracle taking into considerations we only had 19 laps to run.
Pro concept for putting up a good fight the racing was so close and intense.. it was really great... and a great honour to race with nsw fastest...
thanks to ROb, little John + my team .. without them the CRX would be nothing.
Fans like E240, Jason, etc... for coming to support, it was really good to be able to put a face on to an avatar...

thanks guys.. was a great day again for honda racing !!!

Hey, unfortunately due to your issues, I didn't get to speak to you.

It certainly would've been great to have gone out to give your CRX and Pro-Concept a run, but Superlap at this time isn't our priority so we pulled out.

You have a very nice decked out race car. Very nice. I want a GT wing too!

On a side note, that lotus must be a monster to beat the hi-octane r32!

K20A turbo in a very lightweight chassis, proven lotus handling and probably in the hands of an experienced driver...nah...definately a better car...

The tech board outside the Lotus's garage was '230kw's, 750kg powered by a supercharged K20A'

Absolutely awesome combination

Great result. It would be un characterist of HPR CRX to lose.

edit: Just read the time sheets. That Lotus must be fast!

May I ask what the scrutineering issues were?

The HiOctane GT-R has recorded an 11 second quater mile pass in it's full; no adjustment trim at a rally event it attended a little while back.

So yes, the Lotus's achieve ludacris speed with their engine swaps

May I ask what the scrutineering issues were?

Surge tank needed to be covered as it was exposed within the cabin.

The team had the most ingenious track solution ever :D !!!

The event was awesome. Cant wait for the next one all ready. I have never seen such high level of cars/drivers at one event before. The Proconcept car was hella fast! Those lap times in an EK = respect. That turbo charge S2k was ultra fast too. STOCK R35 was 2 seconds faster than us, amazing.

Fingers cross ivan will continue to develop the crx.
Was well worth the trip down. Hope next time there are more honda's out there.

May I ask what the scrutineering issues were?
Many. Like a rolled evo on one of the fastest corner, with no help to get out of the car on the track.

But by far the worst thing was, the Shoot out at the end. When cars got a warm up lap, hot lap, and cool down lap, we had cars on the cool down lap getting in the way of cars approaching there hot lap or either on a race lap. So they either had to do the fastest cool down lap in history or screw up the next driver on a hot lap.

There needed to be more time left between cars.

Michael.... those issues have nothing to do with the scrutineering of cars, so I take it you were just venting about other issues on the day. :)

Sorry i must of miss interpreted his question in my haste to do other things. Possibly uploading the countless pictures.

In reference to the scrutineerig of cars, i'm not sure what the problem the person was refering to, i do know there were a few cars there, dragging oil everywhere around the pits.

But yeah my frustration as a spectator was defiantly the marshaling. More officials were needed, and some adjustments in the shoot out at the end. I felt sorry for the drivers. It just seemed like they were trying to rapp the day up quickly.

Don't let my constructive criticism fool anyone. It was an AWESOME day. You can tell people about a Toyota Landcruiser beating a few jap imports around a track, but they won't belive you, unless you were there or you show some pictures. Or a NA honda smashing cars with twice the power.

Like i mentioned in another thread, i just hope we don't have to wait another year for our next installment. And we can see another one at oran park, before it's gone.
