Straight pipe system versus Muffled system

I'm not sure if this has been covered before :(

The local law around where I live is starting to clamp down on modded cars im thinking of changing my system to a quieter on but I'm concerned with power output being affected. I love the sound of my system I have at the moment but it really really loud.

I am running a 98'JDM B18CR. It would be helpful if I could get some power figures from owners of ITR motors with different exhaust sytem combinations.
I tend to lean towards straight pipe style producing more power, hope someone proves me wrong.

EXAMPLE
say a Buddy club version 3 versus a FUJI Rmo1

Will the later effect power outputs even though same pipe diameter?

I'm not sure if this has been covered before

Any help appreciated

I'd say it might get affected a little, with a system like the RM01A (which Im running currently) as it does have 2 resonators after the cat, as where the straight pipe style would not. Its the quality of the exhaust that will play the role of how much airflow comes through, ie the type of filtration system in the resonators / muffler. One of the main things people forget to do is to get a decent metal cat (Im running Xforce metal cat), which is the main factor of 'power loss' in any setup, turbo or NA. Look at upgrading the cat, backed with a good quality cat-back system, and you shouldnt notice the change that dramatically. thats my 2 cents.

Have you considered something custom? XForce have the VAREX range.

I'm far from recommending them. But my point is, you could go straight back into a Varex or better, and have the ability for loud and quiet. Obviously when it's quiet you won't be at full performance, but that could be a compromise.

It's not like the final muffler at the back changes performance that much. It's all in the cat, headers and diameter.

your not the only one :p -> swap + pee shooter represent

however, im looking to get a quiet system that frees it up a bit. Thinking 5zigin headers, x force metal cat, and mugen twinloop atm.

As joe said, the new laws are not very friendly to loud cars...
