it'd be icm or coil... best to "borrow" one of each and test

just make sure u try the ICM first before the coil, believe me

yep agreed!!

Soryy about the late response too Jase... i hope the hitachi units lasts for you though if hanny's stands by em:thumbsup:

but your right there is a way to test the ICMs for continuity, just need the schematics which i know are available for toyotas and nissans.

i took the blind readings off my dud ICM compared to the new ICM & i'll post them up when i get a chance to see if it helps someone with just blind reading the ICM to see if its good or not.

it is hard to think about with out seeing some sort of schematic on how honda sets them up.

haha yes.The ICM is more common to go.Bloody thing!
Could be the main relay too.

ICM & coil can go equally at different states of failure of the ignition system.

main relay is usually only concerned with lack of fuel,or complete loss of engine management alltogether.

That would be very helpful for everyone indeed if you could. i'll try research on the schematics, may try emailing OKI/NEC/Hitachi.

I think now is about the time when older B Series ones would start dying anyway...

1) I would pull out a lead and stick a sparkplug in it, rest it carefully on the head and crank the engine to confirm there is no spark.. better done at night.

2)If theres spark then look into this:

i already checked that thread ron,i remembered about it too,but unfortunately thats just an external input test for the ICM,im talking about an internal output test,so i can figure out why it kept burning coils.

U need a fricken oscilloscope to test that kind of shit & i was supposed to be workin on a job this week which actually has one on site but that got canned,so i'll try figure it out next time i go there & just post up the ohm readings on the dud ICM for now.

Hey jase,

can't remember the thread so hope you see this.. I remember you asked about the NEC.. I know it's too late but yeah, here tis:

that actually looks more like the hitachi ive just put in,it doesnt say its a NEC either. The NEC doesnt have the big hole in the top corner,or at least the one i pulled out doesnt, but the hitachi does have it.

thats a bloody good price but, could get 3 delivered to my door for the cost of having to drive out & buy just one here.

^^^yeah true, i'm gonna buy a spare and keep in the car.

Had a bad experience with my NX and dead ICM, car died on the uphill of elizabeth drive on the way to wallgrove road just past the bend and speeding cars narrowly missing me.. had to put my car in gear and get the starter motor to keep cranking just to get my car to roll back onto the grass island

***EDIT***
oh woops.. you were after Hitachi... did some searches recently and the part#s I came across are:
HITACHI E12-302, E12-303

That is a great idea!
When my ICM went it was a nightmare to find!!
