Really? I heard it was meant to be pretty good.

Anyway, I've heard people talking about rattling or something in 02 models so look out for that. A little buzzing(or mild rattling) is pretty normal though. Not sure the difference since this is only going by what I've read.

gearbox are fine for jazz..

Onli when u start turboing a auto jazz, its CVT gearbox cannot handle tat much power n torque.. For normal driving.. Jazz is great and will suit ur sister fine.. Get a mugen body kit like what i got for my gf.. Girls look great driving kitted little boxes (for those L15A onces, as once the k20 goes in its now longer little) around.. haha seriously.. jus get one under 50000kms to be on the safe side.. Dun get red coz its a fuked up color.. Get blue or black or white.. Silver abit common..

Wouldnt buy a CVT gearbox, especially on earlier models. Need to religiously maintain them when servicing otherwise been known to have big problems. Good luck finding a 2nd hand Jazz with a normal automatic gearbox, theres next to none. 5spd manuals are the most common and not much goes wrong.

thanks all for those info
having 2nd thoughts about having a jazz now, a few friends of mine saying shit about them, and few friends saying good about them, who knows wat to believe.
Corolla it mite b.
How come jazz has soo much problems. Ive read soo much problems about them compare to other cars. They r hondas.

Depending on what your needs are I guess?

If ud' like to compare a Corolla, go comparing with a Civic or a Mazda 3, and both those cars would be much better drives, Civic for space and fuel, while mazda for sportiness and handling. Corolla is just in between with nothing outstanding. Toyotas are as what they are, reliable and good.

The jazz is in a totally different market, fuel efficient, small cars. U should go on looking at cars like the mazda 2 (sexy beast with great handling), the Yaris (again its a toyota), and the Getz (cheap, but not as fuel efficient as one thinks, averages like 10-12l/100km!)

I bought the jazz because of the space, intelligent interior, fuel efficiency (after you have compared with other cars, u'll know how much better the fuel consumption of the jazz really is). If i had wanted looks, i'd have gone for the mazda2, if i want something with no frills, i'd go toyota. really depends on what u want.

probably the greatest problem is the CVT box and that the Jazz or honda for that matter is not alone in that aspect, but there are ways to fix it. i bought a manual to avoid that problem, but i'll only buy manual cars anyhow =)

If u didnt read its not for me, for my lil sis which is getting her p's soon (Hopefully), So i dont think its goin to get thrashed out, If she does, I already let her drive my rexy and she gets scared when it gets to 3,000 rpm hahah.
I have a look around, adel has not many to offer. finding a car is such a headache. mostly when its not for u!

How come jazz has soo much problems. Ive read soo much problems about them compare to other cars.

taken stock 07 vti cvt on track and it hasn't missed a beat. only had to bleed the brakes and it was good as new. year and a half and 21k later with full honda service history, its still in one piece, however i will say i do get a rattle here and there...

... somewhere around the where the passenger front seat beat holder. only happens when now and then depending on how i drive

Every car ever made has problems.

I've had mine brand new since Dec 07' and have not had one problem with it. I never use the CVT (sequential) because I find it useless as it defeats the whole purpose of me buying an auto. I'd drive my manual car if I wanted to have more fun.

My 2 cents...

That is the manufacturer's talk. we had one, and no matter how granny you drove, it drains petrol more like 10L/100km on average

wow u had urs for 7 months, WOW brand new car, of course u wont have a problems yet, hahah

Yea with manufacturers stats, they not always right. Depends on the car itself.

So does n e 1 have a good thing why should i buy a jazz
SUCK ME IN TO BUYING A JAZZ!!!

Yes SIK_180 WOW!!! lol

Well if you drive the Jazz nicely like what it was intended for (slow and steady) and not like a track car redlining in every gear just to get some sort of remote power out of it then it will be fine.

Don't get me wrong I love my Jazz but power is not it's strong point at all.

The first time I used the "so called Vtec" I thought when the hell is it going to kick in. But my brothers Civic type R, you sure can feel the Vtec in that!

lol, So after me talking about nothing for a few lines, buy one if you want to use it as a daily but if you want performance go get a turbo car.

My 2 cents

good car, easy on petrol. a full tank can get 550 atleast.
who says cvt is bad? best to know the car history just like any other car you gonna buy. cvt is not bad so long you treat it good.

sign of vibration from cvt is bad but jerkyness can be reset. easy.

I read your post and am well aware that you are buying for your sis, but you wanted to compare a Corolla to a Jazz, granted the prices are well positioned for comparisons, but they really are two different segments altogether.

If I'd have wanted to go talkin bout torque, i'd have recommended a mps that has ridiculous torque for you.

And you were right, there arent many second hands on sale, which tells you a story doesnt it? People are generally happy with the Jazzs bought, and not selling them  As for VTI-S model, you would most definitely not find them on the market for the facelift models. I've tried, but no one's selling them, so the best bet would be to look for the pre-upgraded models.

If I were to buy my sis a car, she probably wants a small car esp for green Ps. Saves her petrol and maintenance costs, easier to handle and park. Test drive all of the small cars, i.e. Jazz, Yaris, Mazda 2, Getz, Fiesta, Colt, Polo / cooper (if you can afford the latter two). They would all drive differently, maybe your sis would end up liking the car at first drive, so take her out for one.

I've done so before buying the jazz, and know what i want from the jazz. Cargo Space (biggest in its class), Fuel consumption (actually bought the mazda 2 and getz, and asked friends who drive the yaris and jazz for comparison), zippiness (even though mazda 2 and to a certain extent getz was better), engine refineness (no other cars gave me the same feeling). Must admit, i did not try the Polo or a mini cooper, coz i know i am not going to afford that.

Summary (IMO):
Cheaper purchase cost - Getz
Higher resale value - Jazz
Better Petrol Consumption - Jazz
Great engine, but you'll hear a little bit of strain when pushed - Getz
Best engine currently in the small / cheaper cars - Mazda 2
Better handling - Mazda 2
3 door versions - Mazda 2, Getz, Yaris, Fiesta
Total Cargo Space - Jazz
Best looks - Mazda 2
Most Mods available - Jazz
Safety - Mazda 2 (if upgraded to include curtain airbags)

Not bad Slow Dan, u know how to do ur homework. smart man
Thanks for the info and ur time.
Im more of the rush type. Time is money, but im currently looking at jazz up in vic and nsw, as im adel.
Theres like 5 on sale here and they r all manual or way over my budget.
Im getting to that point that i just wanna go out and buy a new 1, or just go over my budget.
I'll have a look at mazda 2, Yaris i thought i will buy new if i do, they r cheap as. Getz i will neva get, Fiesta maybe, colt NAH. polo and cooper, i rather give her mine and get a 08 sti.
But jazz and corolla r fighting first, but jazz is still first :D
just that i aint patient guy. Arghhhhh

Try to go for a brand new one, u'll b surprised that dealers would be happy to clear their stock (missed the end of financial year end deals though), and if for any reason ur not able to negotiate any price savings, u'll definitely be able to get at the very least 4-5 accesories! ;) but colours may not be of premium, so u'll have to pretty much settle for whatever they have left in stock

Get a VTi Auto, the CVT in Manual mode is fantastic if you know how to drive it properly, and even left in D and just plodding around they are a great little car ! plus with the new one not to far off, there may be sum great bargans to be had on current 08 stock.

get the jazz, install an aftermarket cold air intake to make some noise. Vtec isn;t too great cause i never hear it crossover, it kicks in at 4-5 k so not much use of vtec in jazz. intake will consume 8l/100km intead of 6l/100km on stock.

I had a look at that one too (from car sales that is), and sent them a question to see if they were willing to sell to interstate buyer, no response, Reasonable price though that car .

Ended up buying brand new.

It will be sufficient power and looks for ur sister.. i mus say it again.. If u have to get yellow.. Silver a bit too common.. dun have the presence.. sry ppl had to be said..

For ppl who says that you cant hear or feel vtec in jazz.. jus try in god's name to notice the car pulling faster than normal.. tats fuking vtec.. jazz is the fastest small car!!! in the 1.5 litre N/a range!!

Fancy that you mentioned simota, i'm going to install one this weekend :D Had simota intakes in all my previous cars

Agree, with silver being too common, but because they did not have the colour i wanted, i.e. white / black, that was my next best option. Going yellow or blue will restrict you to a niche market, hence resale is going to be a problem, as the majority still prefer silver as the next best thing if nothing better is available. I tried selling my first yellow car as a p-platter, and man was it hard to find a buyer :(

u guys talk doin up the car, kit and airfilter.
NO i wont b doin that, sum1 said putting 1 on makes it to a 8/100 instead of the 6/100, to me it aint worth it.
Im buying this to keep it stock, Hence why im buying the vti-s as it comes with abit of looks.
To me, no offence, but it aint worth putting $1 on a jazz, i rather spend it towards 200kw+ on my rexy.
The car wont b driven hard or fast and from how my family thinks, there will b no resale. We keep our cars till they die. Except me :D

Goes 8L/100km instead of 6L/100km cause it's running lean. ECU picks up that it's sucking more air so ends up putting more fuel in it.

fitvpower
15-07-2008, 08:39 PM
ya, more air so more fuel required to reach stoic, means more power output,................ not much though :P

Not necessarily. When I did it to mine. ECU kept giving it more fuel when not needed. Loss power instead of gaining....

hoey888
17-07-2008, 01:58 AM
i've read that usually its the clutch that goes first, think it was in the x,xxx mark ... if it hasn't gone under warranty maybe have it checked out before buying... but thats what i've read, don't take my word for it though

If it's the whole gearbox it's a couple thousand. Prolly 2-3k? If it's just the start clutch then it's cheaper.

clutch change is around 400, sports clutch around 800. obviously u have the better known brands but then again would cost a bit more.

any1 know how to much fix the jazz auto gear boxes?

i have a 04 Jazz VTIS CVT. recently there is a slight vibration on take off only. got the CVT oil changed for $150 and it's as good as new.

as people said, usually it's the starting clutch that is the problem. but unless u drive like you stole it all the time, regular CVT oil change (3 years/60000km) is pretty much all you need to do to them.

other than the above, my car has been trouble free.

also older Jazz were made in Japan and newer ones are made in Thailand (from around 2006 onwards).
