Hey Ozhonda
As some may know i drive a 1986 honda civic with Ew2 stock carby engine with 262XXX K's on her
Just to be on the safe side my car batter on charge atm just to make sure im not having battery problems and not alternator problems (but would rather be safe then sorry)
I believe im experiencing some Alternator problems (well thats my judgement atm)
It started about 2 days ago (in the morning) when i was turning my car on for a cold start
I pulled the choke out as i do every other cold start and turned the key
I could hear the car turning and turning and turning but it wouldnt start
(thinking it needed a bit more of a petrol squirt) i gave the accelerator a push (like i do time to time)
Car wouldnt start and just stopped (electricals turned off as the electrical and oil lights turned off)
I let the car sit for a few minutes and then tried again (started first time)
Once again i experienced this problem upon first cold start again but didnt let it get to the stage where it stopped turning all together (as previous morning) then about 10 or so minutes later tried it again and start first time
The stereo was off and all lights etc were off on both starts
The contacts appear to be on firm and to my knowledge the battery is fine
To add to the Symptoms while i was driving this afternoon the Battery light turned on (and during the course of the afternoon would turn off after starting)
The batter light would turn off after i would rev the car around 3,500+RPM and would turn on when i come below that rev amount (but would flicker on and off at around the 3,200 range)
Once again stereo was off
Someone please halp me

Yes it sounds like the regulator or brushes are in a bad state from what the battery light is indicating.
Drop by the local auto spark & get a load test, its quick & cheap.

new alternator is the key. Nothing else to do its simply age of the thing.
Replace dont rebuild

i mean dont buy a rebuilt one...too exxy and often fail.
By all means rebuild it urself tho.
Or just pick one up at a wrecker

ring around see if you can get an exchange alternator because you might replace the brushes only to have the bearings collapse later on you

unless the bearings can be diy'd aswell

Yeah im thinking about it just depends on $$$$
I dont trust PNP so ill give a few other places a call

True Darryl
Hence why im thinking just rebuild rather then replace bushes and have more work to do (the car seems to enjoy doing that to me)

i took my commodore alternator in and got brushes and bearings done from memory it cost around $120 ans that was with an amps upgrade

Mmmm
Here is another question that has to do with the electricals of the car
Would the alternators strength or weakness have to do with Light bulbs Blowing/dying and for example when i turn my head lights on at night my clock goes very dim
Would that have anything to do with the alternator/battery?

hmmm the lights blowing i got no idea on but the dim clock seems like a charge problem.
Try going into a battery place and tell them you wana buy a baterry from them but you wana have your alternator tested before you buy a battery.
Last time i got a battery they tested my alternator for free maybe you can scam a free test without buying battery

Lloyd has it always done that? I'm pretty sure it is supposed to do that, or is it different to the standard dim?

yes an erratic voltage off the alternator ,especially slight overvoltage situations can lead to poor globe life, sounding more like your regulator now.

Mmmm i dont know to be honest
It gets to a stage where the only person that can see it is the passenger
I dont really mind ill probably take it out soon as i dont really need it :p

Perhaps both the Regulator and Alternator?
To my knowledge it pretty much would be on original parts

regulator is part of the alternator.

unforunately our regulators are a part of the alternator...unlike toyota's u can just replace the regulator without removing the alternator...
alternators usually go cheap nowadays man...mine cost me 50 bucks...
some parts places might ask u for ur old alternator so they can reco it and sell it in the future...

Apparently it wasnt the alternator that was replaced...it was the engine that was lightly punched by Chuck norris himself that makes your car run 110%.
Good to see its all good

hahahahahaa
Accept for the rough (and somewhat "Lumpy" idling) the car is good
Car starting on cold start first time everytime>Lumpy idle "issue"
*Starts to Move Mouth*
Now that i know the secret to your power i can work chuck norris magic
*Steals Chuck norris inspiration picture once finished doing asian movie mouth moving*
Thanks Ben

YER i got the problem where my alternator isnt charging the battery as my sound system is too fully sick.. to anyone that knows anything. i know i need to get a new alternator so what would be a sufficient outputting one? 80amp 160amp?
could it occur that the alternator wrecks the battery if it puts in too much power?
