Went to Willowbank last night with my recently dyno tuned EG with DC2R motor + microtech...

250+ cars there so only 2 runs :(

Some interesting cars there from 2JZ '75 Merc (high 11's), to old school Civic with B16Turbo running low 13's I think with potential for 11's, plenty of stockish XR8's WRX's Gti-R's etc running mid to low 14's and some tradie utes and NA Celica's running mid-15's to low-16's. Did more watching than racing but a good night and only a couple of oil-downs...

Anyway...

First run...
2.306 60ft
14.029 ET @99.25 mph

Last run...
2.296 60ft
14.073 ET @99.38 mph

Tried short shifting @8200rpm on second run, which seemed to have pulled my mph along, especially compared to halftrack, but would probably take it closer to redline @9150rpm in 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd shifts next time.

Main issue is traction... I have relatively new Toyo Proxes 205/40/16's which I ran @ 22psi, and 42psi in rears. Think maybe I need some MT street tyres, maybe 205/50/15's... Anyone selling???

Car has apparently run high 13's with diff wheels/tyres and 2.0/2.1 60fters.

Only at track once or twice a yr but I'm sure there's a 13.7 in there with right launch!

try 205/50/15 BFG or M/T.
It will easily drop your ET and 60ft with the right car set up + launch

Did you buy this car from NSW? I think i know which car you are talking about.. Yes i've seen the previous owner pull consistent 13.9's with the car before @ WSID

Good effort for 2 runs man. The 60ft'rs ain't to bad. With a bit more practice you should hit the 13's no sweet.

shit aye, i was there to, also got only 2 runs in, mind u i didnt see ur car there, nice clean eg anyway. but yeah just need to practise the luanchs try and mix it up abit, adjust to what u feel, if ur spinning too much off the line try dropping it from slightly lower rpm.

anyway yeah huge night out there was a good night though :)

Yeah interesting... Was skipping up into the stands, like everybody else, for 2 or three runs waiting to move my car forward and some unfriendly bloke came and told me if I left the side of my car again he'd smash the window and move it forward himself!!! Don't know what can go wrong, as that was about 12 cars and 90 minutes b4 we lined up and nobody ever pushes in, so...

Anyway... all types out there, some more fume affected than others! I had a mate in the stands and I never let the car fall more then 3 car-lengths back! Anyway, had some good chats! Don't knnow why more people don't get out there and then leave us more info about times etc! It's all very interesting and inspiring, with plenty of laugh out loud moments!

Did anyone see what times those Nissan Pulsar GTIR's ran? They can be quick in the right hands.

How many times have you drag raced your car at the 1/4 claymore?

GTR's one ran a 13.8 i believe (silver one)

the purple one pulled a 12.3, which i was sad about as all night i we were trying to get better times than each other and he got me by 0.1 of a second :p o well all good fun, and as u said def a good night out!

Leaving your car unattended in the staging lanes is a VERY noobie mistake. It's a big no no. If you want to chat up your mates park the car or talk to them AFTER you are finished running.

depends how long u leave it for. just so long as u aint delaying people and gone for ages. i no i left mine abit for 5 min at a time

its a test and tune not an event,

They'll be too small for the Poosar's power. You'd want 24.5's.

Slicks means the times you achieve are no longer comparable to other road registered cars... then there's the stress on driveshafts and CV's etc...

Nah... I just need some higher profile tyres on some smaller rims. I have some 185/60/14's that have been hardening in the garage for about 11 yrs but I was hoping somebody may have something younger and softer in a 14" or 15"...

The previous owner apparently ran 13.78@98mph with a 2.04 60 ft. Don't know about rubber... If he had run slicks tho you would expect a time more than .25 of a second faster than mine. Mph is similar too. I think he prob just had a little more sidewall - and more runs!

As for leaving my car, yes I don't think it's a brilliant idea, but I got there at 7:25pm and had 2 runs, 9:09 and 9:59pm, meaning l-o-n-g waits and lots of wandering from everybody. The lanes still move at the same place of course, as any other night with 6 lanes open, but I did spend a lot of time rugged up leaning against the car or behind the wheel of a stationary EG!

Claymore... I'm jealous! You must be a richer breed than I!!!

I'll be up at Willowbank again in about a month or so, mid to late August, on a Wednesday, say 14/8 or 20/8... Be nice to organise for some othre Hondas to be there!

Omg...all your runs is more than my breakfast meal to my current age...damn..wtf..

I have been racing (legally) at NHRA sanctioned Drag Strips since 1965 (first runs with a drivers license but there were some before that with no license very easy back in the old days) every week until 1990 during the months of April - Oct. ( have to stop racing when it SNOWS LOL) So figure it out 25 years and average 4 weeks a month and 7 months a year so that's 28 days a year times at least 25 years so that's 700 opportunities and at least 3 time trials a day plus at least 3 elimination runs per weekend so six runs (average) per day so just for you 4200 times but then there were a few rain outs so lets call it 4,000 times when going every weekend but after 1990 sporadic trips to the track so lets even it out at 5,000 ACTUAL RACING FOR COMPETITION runs runs down the track for me:cool: Then we could count the OZ style test and tune runs but who counts RACES with no competition?? But then we could count the "Off track clandestine, late evening, runs" and add a few but Ben would edit them out.

How many have you made????

just a tiny fraction of your runs Claymore...Currently figuring out a way to get all power to the ground while launching the car...and not by using Slicks yet...

Wow Ricer...trying to get ahead of me huh...lol...i'm just in the stage of setting up my car, doesn't mean i have not run any...

those m/t drag radial , they are good for 1.79 - 1.9 60ft.

Gonna get out this Wed to test those M/T streeties...

After advice on

Burnout/no burnout???

Revs at launch???

Slip or side step clutch???

My B18CR has stock LSD and with microtech can run up to 9200rpm.

Should I try a 2500rpm street launch on this track with these tyres or go for a high rpm wheel-spinning launch. After a 2.0 or better 60 ft to see what it will result in!

All advice appreciated!

OK, had enough of these street slicks... Axle-tramp thru 1st gear whether 3000, 6000, or 7200rpm. Guys at the track suggest solid engine mounts or that poly-stuff you pour in, traction bars or diff suspension setup. I think I'll just waive the white flag and be happy with knowing a mid 13 is possible if I had more money!!!!!!!

I got consistent (but ugly!) 2.25 - 2.35 60 ft times and ran a few 14.1's and two 14.4's with gear changing stuff-ups! Still haven't matched my previous times on Toyo street tyres! Maybe 205/50/15 is too tall for the gearing of the car? I don't know! Top end is similar with street or M/T tyres at 98 - 99mph.

Who wants to buy a pair of near new Mickey T Streeties on Starcorp 15's??? Will Ebay them this week prob.

Saw beeza on way home :)

No other h cars there but a real good mix otherwise. Obviously a lot of people for whom cars rate a lot higher than football - like me!

We ran BFG Drag radial in the past , 205/50/15 @ around 13-15 psi
Best 60ft was 1.79 sec. Not that easy to launch on drag radial.
We got traction bar and hasport engine mounts on it.

Its all about practice and finding a sweet spot to launch it off the line.

Definately need good coilovers, traction bar and stiffer mounts to get maximium traction.

Agreed. Ive managed consistant 2.0 60 ft on street tyres 195 / 55 / 15's . Dont be so eager to get off the line to the point where you wheel spin half way down the track, find the sweet spot!

Suspension setup / mounts etc plays a big big role when it comes to putting power down and quick times.

Hey iijjee,
What other mods you running on the B18CR besides the ecu?

damo46
18-07-2009, 09:54 PM
He could be driving and luanching ok... Gota take into consideration that it could be a bad combination of suspension, mounts, tyre pressure, etc...
Try different setups and different things to help..

iijjee

Only mods (unless previous owners failed to pass on anything) are cold air (did it myself!) exhaust, flattened headers (replacing on Tuesday!) and Microtech ECU. Motor was apparently in great nick and carefully rejuvenated when transplanted. Running stock DC2R LSD, too.

I've launched a few diff cars at the strip over the yrs but still could be missing something!?! Still, axle-tramp tells you the weak point is more than likely mechanical - even if the driver has a bit to learn! You'd think after doing over 400,000km in my 6 converted EG's that I'd be getting close to knowing how to get them away from the line, but the strip is not easy and high grip surface, low temps and soft, cold M/T's make a mess of your mind as you line up for your 'next' pass every half hour... Hmmm, burnout, or no... slip or drop clutch, what revs, flat changes or smooth and sure??? You get a lot of ideas but you're never sure if you're making the right calls!!! It's challenging!
