ok, unless yoiu are goin to be doin alot of welding all the time just stick with a standard helmet with a non changing lens.

either a shade 9-10 for tig welding
or a
shade 10-11 for mig welding & arc welding. shade 12 if you have sensitive eyes

if you wish to invest in a auto darkening helmet you get what you pay for. if you by a auto darkening helmet for under 200 its probably crap.

as a tradesman i use these day in day out, there are only 2 helmets i'd recommend.
one is made by uni-tig (uni-mig) i think its the one that has a australian flag picture all over the helmet, it goes for about $350 - $400.

the other i cant remember the brand. it may be miller, it has flames over the helmet.

both these helmets have changeable din settings aswell as speed settings, are soler powered or battery operated or both and are built to last, you get what you pay for.

stay away from fixed shade autodarkening ones from supercheap etc.

If you are getting an auto-darkening one, spend the extra money. The cheap ones have just a solar switch and runs off batteries. Good ones will use additional solar cells to pre-darken the visor for that first instant before the battery circuit kicks in.
