As far as I know, K&N panel filter goes on US ebay for around 50 something USD, well do panel filter make a difference though when comparing to the stock one?

Would be interesting to know which panel filter gives better air flow. I think anything is better than the stock paper filter. Also you will save money in the long run vs stock. I currently have K&N but may look at alternatives to compare

just a quick question... in terms of durability and usability, which one better Panel filter or SRI?

danjoy25
17-07-2008, 10:27 AM
I'd go the panel as it still stock looking and you won't be sucking hot air. Only thing I might do is modify the air box so it can get more fresher air, maybe adding a flexible pipe/tubing which is directed to the bumper and to the air box.

I want one as well, maybe we can do a group buy. :)

I was thinking about removing resonator and routing a pipe to the foglights. But its 1 foot off the ground and its a bit risky. I might try to route it higher so its atleast 1.5-2 feet from the ground

Just get a CAI if you guys want to remove resonator.
Get beastly sound and improved reaction and fuel reduction.

danjoy25
17-07-2008, 03:41 PM
CAI would be the go, but they cost atleast $400+, take out the front bumper to install and clean the filter and will eventually force me to get a full exhaust and maybe a piggyback computer. LOL!

As danjoy said, its another $400. Dont really want to spend that much. I want to keep the stock look. So really just to remove some extra weight, maybe a slight sound increase

Panel filter... throttle response and engine feels marginally better- maybe a little bit smoother? But for me since I put it in so early, hard to tell if it was the filter or just engine becoming run in. Don't expect any kW gain- but I guess at least it's cost can be justified as it can be reused.

ps. I'd be curious to see how Mugen panel filter goes. I personally used K&N.

$price for the POD is $160ish so you can't go wrong since its reusable and its guaranteed to make to go quicker since its a "MUGEN" LOL!

no it will not. FD1 shape has one of the corners chopped. FD2 is a rectangle panel

Just get a CAI if you guys want to remove resonator.
Get beastly sound and improved reaction and fuel reduction.

Think about the CAI option if your car is under warranty. Remember the 26 page long thread about the guy who's engine blew up and Honda stated it was due to mod's, one of them being the CAI.....

cracker
31-03-2009, 03:38 PM
yeah but i thought in that thread we came to the conclusion that honda was just using excuses not to give him a new engine?
nd im sure other ppl have CAI's too, i know there are alot of ppl with sri'z

fab4272
01-04-2009, 08:47 AM
True, but sometimes they will use whatever excuse they can to not pay for repairs.

My statement was an observation only and that if you want to fit a CAI within the warranty period, then fit it with the knowledge that another member has had problems with Honda.

Waternmo
03-04-2009, 08:52 PM
yea, my mates FD1 had a leakin washer bottle n he was asked to take out his HID and groundin wire kit b4 they will fix the car... anywayz, the stock airbox's design isnt bad, all u need is a pipe for direct cool air and a high flow panel filter

black8thgen
03-04-2009, 09:11 PM
did you get ur hks panel filter btw? i really want one =[... for FD2 as well??!?!

man 330hk dollars is so damn cheap..... is it better air flow than K&N filter u reckon?

Waternmo
03-04-2009, 10:55 PM
yea i ordered it today, they dun hav it in stock atm and i'm leavin soon, so i paid them 330hkd for this filter n around 100hkd for postage to brisbane. HKS has better flow than K&N for sure but is well known for poor filtration lol, but i think it shud be fine with the cleaner air in aus... topracing also stock trust panel filter which is K&N style without the oil!

black8thgen
03-04-2009, 11:11 PM
damn, any chance i can order one from here?

03-04-2009, 11:19 PM

Waternmo
07-04-2009, 08:50 PM
oh okok, i'll post up sum comments with the filter in may when i get back, not experting much from it as its only a replacment filter but yea sumthin diff to K&N... this is the first time i use HKS but i've tested trust, k&n, n BMC, n i do feel that the engine revs up a bit faster with a foam filter eg. trust,

black8thgen
07-04-2009, 08:58 PM
ohh i see. fair enough. sounds good =D.

d@vid
10-04-2009, 08:14 AM
I do feel a little different from Stock to K&N filter.

black8thgen
10-04-2009, 11:22 PM
btw: so HKS isnt a foam filter? and trust filters are foam? So which one do u reckon would get the best airflow? And im thinking.. maybe the HKS filter will need to be replaced? Whereas a K&N one is there for life (supposedly)

Min988
11-04-2009, 06:03 PM
The last time I used a HKS and Trust mushroom filter it was a foam not sure about the panels, The K&N ones I feel dont provide as much airflow as a foam filter but i get the sneaky feeling that the k&n provides better filtration(I think because of the oil), given the fact that i've wiped a light dusty residue from my tb after using a foam filter after 10000k, and did the same with the K&n and there was a alot less dusty residue.

Waternmo
11-04-2009, 10:38 PM
its true that K&N will provide better filtration than foam filters, the latest HKS panel filter is a 3 layer dry filter (different layers to filter different size dust particles) and trust make both foam and non foam panel filters. i was told that most after market filters can be washed since they ar not paper.

black8thgen
11-04-2009, 10:43 PM
ah i see. hmm i'll just wait till ur comments on HKS and i'll prob make the purchase =D

28-04-2009, 11:04 AM
mmm can't wait til i stop getting my car serviced @ honda lol, im gonna go down the - try get a pod to fit inside the stock air-box somehow, change intake to something that houses a pod inside a box so it looks stockish and then get rid of stock resonator and run an intake from foglight area to the airbox

or easiest way is change to a diff panel filter, get rid of stock resonator and then run a cai feed into stock airbox :)

ps - let me know when ur back ondy, (thanks for that pm btw) markcivicvti, aero and i meetup to help each other install stuff etc so yeah, love to meet ya and +1 to the increasing modded fds in bris haha

options on the cold air feed:

* coming from the fog light area - the space next to the light which otherwise would have the plastic spacer.

nothing seat of the pants to be honest. Slightly more aggressive intake sound is the only subjective improvement and longer time between servicing, more consistent performance over distance.

Hey all,

I purchased the K & N Panel Filter (33-2342) for me FD1 yesterday. Got it from Autobarn (Macgregor) for $99.

All in all, the throttle response and engine feels slightly better/smoother compared to the stock paper filter. There was pretty much minimal difference in terms of sound.

Nonetheless, i'm quite happy with the purchase ^.^
