If certain mods done to a car renders it defective, how does one get an engineers report to ok it so that that modification is allowed on the road?

i think you just go to a mechanic who is qualified to do an engineers cetificate... there is no other way around it i dont think mate...
why what is defective on ur car? because u know that if there is something on ur car that's defective, ie the cops give you a defect notice then you have to change it back to legal specs before getting the engo cert...unless you have a dodgey fella mech.

sometimes these can cost a lot of money too, more than expected anyway...

is this any help?

Nothing is defective, it was a hypothetical for when I change seats in the car which requires different rails. If it as simple as finding a mechanic as opposed to a specifica place where it has to be done, cool.

don't have to change it back if it's legal in the first place and they got it wrong.....

but it has to be a mechanic who is qualified to inspect your car and distribute engineers certificates so call around

my brother knows someone who can do these...i will get in contact with him and let u know ;)

engineering signatories can be found here:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi15.pdf

only relevant if you're in NSW of course, other states contact your regulatory body

a basic cert. will cost u $400. If something is defective during the inspection, its an extra $100 for another until everything passes.

that list of signatories is way out of date. i run around 4 or 5 and none of them existed anymore.
