Loads of people over here were doing the conversion for about $300-400 US and the cars run almost normally but a slight DECREASE in performance. BUT now that the price of LPG has gone up so much compared to the price increases in regular fuel it has reached the 50/50 point with the savings in fuel costs being equal using LPG or petrol. So it depends on the price of LPG in you area if it is worth it or not.
One problem is filling the empty tanks. I forget which one either LPG or NGV (both gases) take 15-25 minutes to fill up and the other one is still slow at about 10 minutes to pump the gas into the tank so every time you fill up it's going to cost you TIME. All the taxis here have to run on NGV and the pump stations have lines around the block with most of the taxis in line for ONE HOUR to get their tanks filled up sometimes TWICE a day.
That is the other problem finding fuel stations that dispense gas for fill ups. Maybe you have a local that sells it BUT can you find it if you go on a road trip??
10 minutes to fill up the tank? no way man, i've got a family 4wd running LPG and its the same as pouring petrol just a slight longer.

LPG and NGV are different. We use LPG which fills up quickly and has more energy per litre of fuel. NGV is a pain and is the one used in the south east asian countries. LPG is actually liquified propane, similar to the cooking gas tanks that they use in asia. NGV is liquified methane.

Actually, it is in almost every petrol station in ADELAIDE which is obviously where you get this perception from. It is also very readily available in Melbourne. Perth and Sydney it is in around 75% of stations and in sunny QLD it is only in around 40% of stations, probably because of their 9c rebate on petrol and Diesel, which a little while ago was a very high percentage of overall cost. In the rural areas most of the major highway and town servos have LPG, but there is always the possibility of being caught short.
one thing to consider too is the extra weight that you will be adding to our relatively light cars. Adding 150kg to a 1200kg car with relatively small amounts of torque, is very different to adding it to a 1600kg 3.5L V6. this means higher fuel consumption..

In practice, if you did convert your car to 100% gas only, you will produce more kw if tuned to 100% gas. The reason why new cars that run on gas have slightly less than petrol kw is that they have to tune to both fuels.

Well put.
Unless your converting it completely over......in an Inline 4 and conidering todays LPG prices, it's not worth the changover.

Well the conversion costs 2950 in total and with a $2000 dollar rebate. Out of pocket 950, pay it self of within the first year or less

Not really a suitable engine for conversion and I doubt you'd recoup the difference unless you're really piling on the KM

Its more than a tune to get more power out of gas. You also need to have an injected setup not the standard mixer stepups that most people are running.
LPG if done right will have no major negative effects but you need to take into account how long you plan to keep the car for, who many ks you do, more regular and more expensive service costs and possibly reduced range. (If you go the cheap option and get a donut tank)
To be honest its something I've considered but I can't justify the intial expense on my 20 year old car.
