About to buy a DC5...
Drove a type s today and it was very enjoyable.
It made such good power and now im considering whether to go with the type S over the Type R..
Can anyone tell me the difference in the motor, like are the cams different on the S..compression ratio? or just tune on the computer.
It makes 7Kw more, but its heavier.
I havent driven An R yet..
Basically, i dont want to get in a type R and be dissapointed in the engine not delivering thew same buz...will this happen?

go drive a type-R. their is no way anyone can explain the difference.
power to weight ration they are almost exact. i highly doubt you will be disappointed.
it depends on what your doing with it and what your looking for. if your not fussed about sacrificing the leather and sunroof for better handling performance and an LSD go the type-R. plus if its buzz your looking for R's are a better car to modify in my opinion.

Interesting, i need to test drive an R then to get an idea of what you're talking about
It will be taken to the track now and then...

your almost definitely after a type-R then. the bucket seats and the LSD are going to be of use to you and it sounds like your going to want to mod it.
good luck finding one.

Not sure of the exact differences in the motor but the exhaust is different, the Type S being slightly larger diameter, and one of the cams is apparently different and the rest is in the tune I think. The bottom ends of the motors are identical, only the JDM Type Rs got the slightly higher compression.
Stock for stock they are about equal in a straight line, and a drag or a circuit race will be a drivers race. For some track use I would choose a Type R every time for the lighter weight and the LSD.

go the R man. and with the left over money, can u mod it.
the major diff between the R and S (ausdm) is that the S has no LSD gearbox and no recaros and the S is alot heavier.
the R is alot more raw to me..

Seems as though The Type S has very simmilar cams to the JDm Type R, hence it revs to 8600rpm, the valvetrain is apparently stronger and so too is the botom end..

That's right.
I've driven both the R and S and own a Type S.
R is predominately a street car designed for the track, but the same could be said about the S, despite no Recaro's and LSD. Owning one is great. A good suspension setup and the handling is superb, (same could be said about stock). Power delivery is great, and doesn't let you down.
If you're going to the track every now and then, you wouldn't be disappointed with both.
If you're looking for somethng more 'raw' etc, probably best to get the R.

Would you say the S feels stronger? motorwise/performance...

the AUDM DC5S has a JDM DC5R high cam (i am 99% sure). which is why the vtec crossover in the AUDM S is SLIGHTLY more noticable than the R. IMO the DC5R is a better car, at a much better price. and looks twice as good as the S in CW

In my memory the ex side cam and ex-manifold is same as JDM.....apart from that its same as AUDM K20s.......and also ECU tune too...that help to make another 7 kw.....
apart from that is like other mention no recaro and lsd......Its up to wat you need the car for....if you dun see track the the S is a better car to live with.....if you plan to see track then go R .....

Thanks, you guys have answered my qusetion really well.
I now understand the differences in the motor between the S and the R, probably go R and if need be, do a cam upgrade..Toda spec a or similar.

LOL...
It up to u at the end.
Facelift dc5 look better IMO,
Has Better engine(more aggresive cams JDM R),Upgraded Steering Rack (JDM DC5R 05-07), Bigger intake manifold, better strut braces etc. 128.8 kwatw with trust drop in filter, I got 131 or 132 with gruppem
I end up taking all the seas out and stripping the back wen i track any ways.
I wanted a R but I wanted something new. So wen my clutch dies im sticking in a 1.5 way LSD anyways...
at the end of the day its the same fukn car.

U cant just change the cam, u need to get retainers retune, ECU or piggyback needed ect

IMO, the R feels more raw, I'll have to blame the killer vtec crossover. The S doesn't have this, but slap on an intake, and you'll smile from ear to ear.
Motorwise, look, I'm going to have to go with the S, and yes it may seem a little bias but really, both are great. Tracking the car, LSD, recaro's and a momo steering wheel in one hit is superb, whereas with the S, you'll probably end up spending more to have them in. Way more!
Put it this way, R boys will tell you R is better and S boys will tell you S is better.
Facelift, as EL_DC5 mentioned, is better, more aggressive from a stock point of view, S sits higher up and the same could be said about their killer rev limiter to 8600rpm. I think I may have mentioned this before but, really, the only MAJOR difference between the R and S is the Recaro's, Momo Steering wheel and LSD.
Everything else is give or take.
Good luck!

I Got the MOMO Facelift steering wheel, its nice... I also got the Red H's, Type R Pedels, and gear knob. Love the S's leather seats and cause im a big block i didnt fit very comfy in a typr R seat, looking for a aftermarket larger drivers seat for track.
but the seat airbags are a problem. I know recaro make ones the are Air bag ready, but at what cost. Im not the type to change seats all the time.

I went through the same questions when buying my S. IMO the S looks alot better and less dated, its easier to find a low KM mint condition S these days for only a few more thousand then the R.
TBH when i see a type R i alwayz wish i got one, which is more race focused, but at the end of the day the S is a everyday car then can give week end thrills with all comforts of leather and sunroof.
Price Vs age Vs looks Vs performance = S FTW (if i found a clean CW DC5R i would of bought it though)

U cant just change the cam, u need to get retainers retune, ECU or piggyback needed ect
So you cant just do the cam/spring install?
i thought some were compatible with standard ecu..then just upp the rev limiter?

'I remember some body did that in hk by installing Toda A2 cams with mugen ecu and they work well together....but sure you need to upgrade your valve springs too.....stock valve retainers can be use tho.....
