Hey Guys

I've just installed a Turbosmart manual boost controller.
http://www.importscene.com.au/images/fg-gbcv-bt_250.jpg

I've got it set to about 9-10psi

Now since install the boost takes a bit longer to come on then hits harder when it dose.

Is this normal?

Since we are on the subject, can anyone explain why? I would like to know the mechanisms used in this type of controller.

also would this be any better? http://tunertoys.zoovy.com/product/HPBC/TurboXS_High_Performance_Boost_Controller.html or is it simply used for higher boost increases without having to modify the wastegate itself?

Yeah its the lag that's a bit weird...

Still might be better for lunching as I get out of the gate with less power :)

Put your springs in for WED

already in dude, then gotta change them back again for friday.problem is i got no preload on the springs so im not getting the full effect.

As for the lag it could be showing up some defficency in your exhaust now with the gate closed for longer & getting a bit of backpressure on the turbo,so taking longer to spool.........i know stuff all bout boost, just trying to put a bit of logic into it,i could be way off track.

I think, because its a bleed type boost controller. To increase boost it actually bleeds off boost to trick the WG from opening. So the WG opens later and therfore increases boost depending on how much you bleed off. I think this bleeding off is delaying when boost comes on.

do u think it would bleed off that much deano, its only a small bleed isnt it,compared to whats going to the motor?

Are you sure its taking longer?
Turbosmart ones are gated, so it should not start "bleeding" air until it reaches its set pressure level, hence should start boosting sooner.

Is it gated luke? the bleed type can give a fair bit of gate creep as well.

the turbosmart is gated luke,i just looked it up,so it isnt the bleed type,it holds the wastegate from seeing any boost at all till what it is set too, better setup.

the bleed type can still give you a fair degree of wastegate creep.

yeh i noticed this too
when I had a EBC in my car, the boost would come on earlier and hold boost all the way to redline.
when I came around to selling it, I removed the EBC and fitted a t-piece type boost controller. I noticed boost came on slightly later and didnt hold boost as great compared to the EBC

so luke you got the eboost in yet?
I haven't seen anything in mine but then i had the eboost in straight away.
I just gotta get it remounted.
P.S if you need mounting kits i brought about 4-5 of them cos i was trying out different setups ;)

had a quick look at smanager on the S300 last night luke & it does allow for a switch operated high/low boost setting, which can be set up individually per gear as well.
