too many things could be contributing to the cause.
Driving style
Service/maintainence
Fuel type
list goes on, why don't you tell us a bit more

lots of black smoke usually means ur running rich, could just be that ur driving it harder than usual....VTECs usually blow a bit of smoke, could be an O2 sensor thats gone...which is makin u run richer than normal, but u'll really notice this cause ur fuel will just disappear

anyways 30L for 300kms is pretty good for a b16a, mine gets bout 400 km per tank and when i fill up its usually bout 38L or so.

Your car loves torque that's all! It's a good thing IMO.

that is normal with Shell fuel... u get black stuff coming out of the exhaust and sometimes ur bumper gets black marks out it :)

lol i dunno i used to get really good kms to tank.. like 400 - 500 a tank lol now its barely 300 for 30 litres..

i use shell v power fuel.

thats your problem right there, get rid of the shell fuel and use bp ultimate. problem solved

^??????????

can u plz justify ur statement

Simmo2302

shell fuel gives your the black soot /carbon build up at the tip of your exhaust and worst case on your rear bumper, there are countless statements of this by many members of this forum that i have read over time.

so i m pretty sure i m not alone in making that statement. god knows what the carbon build up is like further up the exhaust if not on the valves :-S

also a mate of mine used to work in a shell servo in kallangur (brisbane) when shell v-power racing was intoduced. he was told that shell v-power abd v-power racing were desgned specifically with V8 engines in mind. and out of all my mates and family who have a wide variety of vechicles from 4 to 8 cylinders both stock and modded. only the 8's and 6's seem to run well on the fuel (still get black soot though).

i m quite surprised that any 4 cylinder runs well on any type of v-power.

anywho just my personal opinion.

change fuel and see if it makes a difference :)

Please enlighten the rest of us how gasoline knows how many cylinders you have in your car ??

you do know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit

if you read my post all i said was that a friend of mine who works at a shell servo was told so. so what makes u think i would kno anything more ?

if you want to know how v-power or v-power racing was designed for larger cylinder engines, or even if that is true (as what i was told may not be 100% correct) i would suggest you email your question to shell itself, although considering they make the stuff they'll probably say its great 4 everything. lol

Wow that's some reasoning. Please enlighten the rest of us how gasoline knows how many cylinders you have in your car and why a V-8 would run better on one type of fuel but a 4 cylinder car runs bad on the same fuel. Like whats the difference???

dont bother

simmo, do u know y there are different grades of fuel?

premium fuel is most important for high performance engines, this usualy consists of smaller engines running high compression ratios to produce alot of power or normal comp engines running boost

the premium fuel is required to prevent detonation, pre explosion of fuel mixture as in the mixture is placed under large pressures

so u see, generally, big v8s dont need premium fuel as they are a primitive engine design, they rely on huge cylinders and displacement to make lots of power instead of high comp with small displacement or boost

try ecu reset? If it's still no good after the reset, find out if there is ECU error code.

well i'd say that the 500kms/tank is an improvement on your earlier statement :-)

i've started having a similar problem with both my cars EU & EK.

Ever since shell has come out of their V-power drought their fuel seems to run quicker than normal.

Any i only pour from 1 shell which i have used for over 10yrs (starting to show my age)

I've started to use Vortex 98 now, and milage has gone abck to normal about 450km per fill up or 8-9ltr per 100km.

With the V-power recently i started to get 300-350km per tank

Yeah V-power isnt al that.
I used to have serious pinging problems running V-power on my S13.
And I noticed bad mileage on my Pulsar.
But V-power seems to have more 'kick' on NA cars.
Anyway BP ultimate is the fuel of choice amongst the Silvia ppl.

Is V-power the 100 RON, or 98 RON fuel?

twing

v-power is 98, v-power racing is 100

unless they started to mix ethanol in the 98 without telling us

In case you don't know: the difference between the rating is how much energy it release when combusted! Therefor 98 octane releases more than your standard 92 octane (or whatever it is) getting better performance. the higher octanes fuels can't be combusted as easily at low pressures ( when the piston is coming up) therefor preventing preignition in the engine (or pinging)

Simmo2302

unless i m wrong fuel usually come in 91 octane, 95 octane, 98 octane. and 100 (with ethanol) octane. overseas has 105 and 110 octane aswell i think
