heya,

wanted to get some infomation about the lsvtec conversion (b16 head on a b18 block) i know that alot of people have done this but i never found anyone that has used a b16b type r civic head on a b18a1 block. is there any infomation i should know besides getting the following parts:
GE kit
APR head stud bolts

? thanks guys. conversion will be undertaken if all is good.
the reason why i asked this question is because the b16b is factory port and polished so i have heard? dont quote me on this.

lol any pointers would be great

thanks

you'll find more info on honda-tech.com regarding a B18A block b16b head build

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Lots of B16b info here

As above the US sites will have more experience

no different to any other LS/VTEC conversion using the PR3/P73 Head (B16a,B16b,b18c7).

Most important upgrade are the rod bolts as opposed to the head studs... plenty of info on this in the All-motor section

B16A head is better

and why? ..dsp26 (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/member.php?u=10100) already mentioned they are the same head casting..

it should be exactly same as any lsvtec..

but since u are running more agressive cams you might need to dig out some relief ditches for the cams (clearence)....
Check your head to deck clearences..

the b16b and b16a are the same heads

im getting a complete b16b head. fully b16b internals. which should run better than a b16a should it not. =)

im getting a complete b16b head. fully b16b internals. which should run better than a b16a should it not. =)

in that case then yes.. but what I and Blitz are getting at is that the LS/VTEC procedure is the exact same for all 3 head castings as they are the exact same.

But because you asked specifically about the B16b head and now we know your getting the lot then:

B16b > B18c7 > B16a/B18c2 (last part is subjective)
- B16b because it has everything the b18c7 has (cams/springs/porting/etc) + a poofteenth of additional 3° intake cam duration & different ramp angle. Apparently the 2nd generation DC2r have these anyway in the B18c7
- B16a/B18c2 as they are cheaper than the other 2...

BTW Samm928, the bolts/studs you PMd me about isn't as much a neccesity as these:

but get em anyway in case yours are shot, but definitely get them if your raising static compression above 11:1CR

because the head is a OBD2B do i have to run a OBD2B ECU?? i have a OBD0 ecu stock. can i use a OBD0 to OBD1 converison harness and use a vti-r teg ecu? would this work? buying a hondata ecu is $500 and tuning it is $1000 if i can get ahold of a tuner. any suggestions people?

You can use most b-series vtec ecus to run the engine, but for optimum reliability you would want tunable ecus.

You have 2 options.
1. change to a standalone ecu, Link, Haltech, AEM ect..

2. or use a converted/chipped honda ecu running ROM software, such as CROME, NEPTUNE, HONDATA ect.

i have a b16b,
and the head is port and polished from factory,
but more can be done.

the inlet valves are good,
but the exhaust valves can be shaved down.
matching the inlet to the head is a good step also.

i dont know to much about the ecu?
