hi,
i was just wondering what brand pod filter would be best for my car (interga vtir 98) i was told it was k&n were the best, but some people say that they are overrated and the cheap drift filters were proven better in preformance and sound wise over the k&n filters.
can anyone please tell me which would be better
btw, i tryed searching the forums and i didnt find anything about this if this is a repeat of a post im sorry.
cheers!

Apexi & Blox would have to be the two filters I hear most raving about.
Then again I've heard some rave about simota.
bit of a personal preference imo, just like asking what fuel is the best.

its not gonna make a difference. save your money and get a panel filter instead. less problems with the cops.

For filtration and flow, the K&N are one of the best out there. You get quality when you get a K&N.
Do you want performance and sound, or is actual filter filtration on your list?
Because no filter will always beat filter in regards to power and sound.
I remember reading a huge comparo that I think autosalon mag did. I will try to find it, but K&N was right up the top in terms of both flow and filtration.
3A cheap ass filter did all right too, from memory.

No, but I did have K&N CAI on my old euro. I will get another K&N CAI for this euro too.
3A is same design as K&N. Definately a viable alternative to K&N.
Just have to maintain them properly.

Filter test was carried out by Autosalon Magazine. Do you trust Autosalon Magazine? :p
I prefer Apexi because it is dry.

dude if you have a integra vti-r you will already have a pod in your stock airbox. i replaced mine with a good K&N filter and kept it in the airbox so its completely legal, you cant tell when you look into the Engine bay so no troubles from police.

custom air box and a descent cold air feed should do the trick.
It didn't stay around long enough for me to make a box but the cold air feed did make a difference.

Autosalon's test is a good read. They pushed each filter to maximum limits.
Hard to ignore $30 3A racing filter from this test....
I wonder about how good their quality control is?

What was the flowrate for the 3A when clean and when dirty?

Just says 601.2 cfm. The K&N they tested was 579.6 cfm in comparison.
They also said that there was a significant difference between the filtration of the K&N and any other filter in the test.
- It must be noted that the 3A filter is a 'dry' filter. The K&N filter is an 'oil' type filter. Performance can vary with the ammount of oil you apply to the K&N, but I am guessing that they used it straight out of the packet.

So there is no information on the flowrate when the filter has dirt on it. :zip:

DO NOT USE THE METAL MESH BLITZ ONES!!!

That would make the comparison so much more harder to control.
You can make a generalisation that the pleated type filters would perform better dirty because of the increased surface area.

All of them are pleated except for the foam filter. I am trying to compare between the K&N, 3A and Apexi.

you are a victim of the placebo effect.
or just that your k&n filter is in a used state and requires a clean and therefore the new filter feels more responsiveness.
