View Full Version : Another CU2 review
Found another review at the GoAuto web site (see below). Generally they liked it but they didn't like the steering (from what I read it sounds like you have to get used to the new "assist"), the engine noise (!) and they had some reservations on the boot (17" spare intruding), rear seat legroom and the "central knob" on the dash.
Questions; No-one has made any mention on the the fuel tank flap. Do we have a lever that pops it open like the CL9 or do you have to "push it" like the they seem to have to in the TSX.
How does the boot compare to the CL9 ?

You'll have to push the fuel tank lid to open it, but you can only open it when the car is unlocked, for obvious reasons.
The boot seems to be about the same size in the luxury version, and smaller in the standard because of the full sized spare.

Boot is fine. The height of the boot is the only real concern, if you are the type of person that should drive a wagon..... I still fit my big travel bag in there no worries, plus all my other crap. I had space saver on my CL9, I prefer to have a full size spare...
Fuel cap is the 'push' type. It is fine, and works fine.
Steering is fine. It is something you have to try for yourself. I definately like it better than other cars. It is like HID's. Fine with out it, but once you have it...
However, I understand where the reviewer is coming from. If you haven't driven it before, it is a weird sensation. You get used to it pretty quickly though. It's kinda like force feedback steering wheel on PS2!
And what about the engine noise? It is beautiful, not loud. CU2 is quieter than CL9. It sings a real nice melody all the way to redline. As with the reviewer, the party starts at around 4k rpm.
Leg room in the CU2 is fine also. I had my family in the car on the weekend, and we are all pretty big except for the missus. We all had ample room. Suprised me. If you seen a photo of us, it would suprise you too LOL! In my review, I made comments about the roof height when sitting in the back. Well, I was the one sitting in the back with my dad (both over 6') and we were fine. I had about a 2" gap above my head.
Central knob on dash is only used when you go through your audio settings. I think there are too many buttons, I haven't even used half of them. The audio is made by panasonic ind is great. The subwoofer is a bit gutless, but better than none at all. The thing that I like most is the speaker on the middle of the dash. It brings the music up and in front of you. Very nice indeed.

Thanks for the feedback. I was surprised that they mentioned the engine noise in the 'dislikes' part, not heard it but assumed it was the typical lovely Honda engine on song (they also said if you didn't like it get the normal Accord V6 ).
I have a very strong preference for full size spares (read hate space savers) and a little less boot space is minor so wanted to know what real people thought of it.
The centre console looks in the photos a bit cluttered or busy but nothing to get too worried about.
The fuel cap/flap just seems like an odd design choice.

The Jazz have this feature. With the CL9, you had to keep the doors unlocked anyway while refuelling. Reaching down to release the fuel flap on the CL9 is a pain. I much prefer the new CU2's system.

The european cars have this feature too, don't they?
Anyway, it is definately a good thing, not a bad thing.

lol and liked it, and the steering. And I got to see the map display for the first time on the sat nav. Does look like it is better graphics.
He mentions road noise from the tyres? I didnt notice that in my test drive and blames the tyres?

Ah it is? I've never seen the CL9 Sat Nav so i assumed they would be the same because of the maps but i guess i'm wrong! What did you think of the sat nav?
Even after using tomtom for a while, i still adjusted to this one really quickly and imo i actually prefer it more. Maybe its because i dont have to keep mounting and dismounting the GPS unit constantly like i did with the TomTom, but even though the guidance is 2D, it is actually more readable and easier to follow. I do miss the speed readouts that i get from an external GPS though, as i always followed that instead of my speedometer :p

Not what I would call noisy by any means. I guess that highlights the bad thing about a quiet car. Any noise you hear is going to be real noticable.

other than the centre consoles and the lighter steering compared to the previous models i love em. i've driven the standard and lux models and they're both VERY nice.
The centre console looks in the photos a bit cluttered or busy but nothing to get too worried about.
i work for a dealer and am used to using the audio/climate controls on all models... until today!
out of coincidence i had to take the new euro and accords both for longer drives today. the new consoles are a mess of smaller buttons compared to the previous models. sure i guess all cars take some time to get used to but i found the odd layout and smaller buttons had me having to take my eyes off the road to scan the console more than i would have liked while driving.
even little things like the 2 centre knobs, i thought it would be better to have the volume on the bigger one.
i guess i'll see how i feel after driving it a few more weeks
