Hi all,
well after 52000 kms it's time to replace the standard bridgestones that came with my DC5S. I can replace them with exactly the same tyre for 390 a corner but this seems kind of steep perhaps... is there a better tyre I can get for a similar (or even better, cheaper) price? i've done a bit of research but the tyres i had written down are on a business card at work which i don't have available to me right now. Suggestions from experience would be greatly appreciated :-)

I'd say Bridgestone RE001's. I have them and they are a very good tyre all round. They shouldn't cost anywhere near $390 a corner. Have heard good reviews about the new(?) RE050A or whatever it is by Bridgestone.

ah yeah. i'm not really too sure what qualities i would need in a tyre. the bridgestones on it are a fairly hard compound which is why they lasted 52000 kms... but a softer compound tyre with more grip will wear faster and have to be replaced faster... so the money i save there might not be worth it in the end? not that it's all about saving money when it's such an important part of the car...

well i went to a particular tyre place and they were quoting me 350 for toyo proxes 4. 270 for dunlop direzza. btw 205/45/16. they may have quoted the wrong tyre size. another place was quoting me around 180 per tyre for proxes 4. so there was a huge difference.

that is a ridiculous price man... re001s are really nice, we got them on my sisters mx5, and they are a very very good little all round tyre to by honest... But you are correct in weighing up your needs from the tyre, vs. wear and cost.. i suppose it really depends on what you want your tyre to do for you.

well i guess i was fairly happy with the bridgestones when they were gripping but they are getting ridiculously bald now but i just haven't had the time to get them changed. i just wanted to know if there was anything better for the price... i went to this shop and got quoted 450 a tyre for the bridgestones but only 390 a tyre for the same one at the honda service centre... but it still seems pretty steep.

390 for a tyre is very high in the pricing scale for a 17 inch tyre... try and get a price on the RE001 Adrenalines as a way of getting perspective

Yeh RE001s if you dont mind the mileage. The guy quoted 30-40k k's if you like to go hard every now and then. But easy 40+ if your driving normally.

To into perspective: My 195/50/15's were $119 when they were "on sale" (save like $10 bucks a tyre). 16 inch is around the 170-180ish so 17inch wouldn't be much more expensive
