As the thread title states.......crunchy.

I consider myself to be a pretty good driver but this S2k box is tricky. On a fast shift from 1-2 or 3-4 at 7000+rpm its very easy to crunch a gear. I am changing all the fluidds this weekend so hopefully it goes away. Is there a known problem with this? If I slow the shift slightly I can get through it but the engine goes off the boil and almost out of VTEC on the shift. I can actually shift faster ACROSS the gate, ie 2-3 than I can from 1-2 or 3-4.

The car was a one owner 50 ish year old guy who didn't even know what VTEC was much less rev it over 5k!

I race a 1G ZC CRX and have a few others so plenty of experience but this has me confused???:confused:

Thanks guys,

James.

48000km. I just replaced the clutch. It did it before the clutch change. But it seems like am not shifting as fast as I would like.

why did it need a clutch change at 48000km?

most s2ks i know last to 100,000km or more on the stock clutch

No idea, it was just weak. Slipped once or twice while I was driving very hard up Arthurs Seat in Vic. (A nice twisty hillclimb). Decided to throw in an Exedy H/duty while I changed the exhaust. Drives much better now.

did the 50yr old owner have a son with a heavy foot?

Haha no. Infact one of the reasons he sold it. Son just turned 18 and couldn't drive a manual!

It's an honest car. Perhaps I scared the stock clutch away when I got hold of it????

You are a mind reader!

I got very annoyed on the weekend and decided to drop all the fluids and use genuine Honda fluids. The last owner went to his local mech for the last service so I figured the fluids could be all wrong.

PRESTO!!!!! Problem gone. Also the guy in Honda Frankston was great. I spent a bit over $100.00 on 10 litres of engine oil, 2 filters, 2 litres gearbox oil and a litre of diff oil. She runs much better, and since it was raining I did a custom second cold air intake on the standard airbox as well as gutting the baffles in there and shutting off the dampening chamber thingy.

The car drives the way it should now I am stoked!!!:thumbsup:
