OK OK before u tell me to search, i have done so already and couldnt really get anything that i was interested in...

Now the question I have for all of you is this.

If you found a Civic Si and a Civic VTI, say both bone stock and same price.

All you had to do was decide which one to get.

Which one would you buy and why? please details...

Is there any advantages from either one being DOHC or SOHC???

And not just because VTI has a sunroof... heheh

Thanks and Advance!

But they're both very similar..

Apart from the sunroof... and new age. ..

Oh and also one being vtec and the other non-vtec

well 2 year apart for a car thats over 15 years old wouldnt really matter km wise... i'd assumed they would both have high kms

i'd still go for the vti because its a newer car...

plus late model EGs interiors are nicer then early model ones.. most of the early models ones i've seen have light chat fabric whereas the older models are darker like the EKs

vti motor/d16y1 has heaps of off the shelf stuff compared to the d16a8...

Si has less weight to pull its 98kW from motor ;)

sohc vtec is gutless neway, personally, sitting in a VTi, i don't feel any vtec at all.. its just sitting dere helping fuel ;)

DOHC kthxbye.

SI fo sho.
if i could choose again i wouldve went for an si.
its more torque-eeee (low-mid)since its a dohc
and the redline is pretty much the same on a civic vti. just in case that interest you. :)

but you cna get a noticeable vtec scream in a vti, just not as sweet as a vti-r

the vti is sohc vtec, its not really "THE" vtec ppl boast about.
between the vti and si power wise there really isnt a significant difference to compare much, its mainly cosmetic.
to me the main thing is the sunroof that differs between the two as i would intend to convert the engine anyway. i went through the same phase of deciding but ended up with an EK civic..no regrets there lol

VTi is newer and hence more chance of finding a better unmolested examples, and has sunroof std which may or may not be appealing to some.

And as with newer EGs from 1994 you would expect to find the VTi and GLi models fitted with driver's airbag which may or may not appeal to you.

The Vti has a charcoal fabric trim that still looks contempory whereas the Si has a crushed velour in a cheqered pattern which looks daggier.

The vti's engine is piss weak vtec for sure, but it's smoother and more refined than the Si's zc engine (which is far from a B16a); even though it looks nice on the rocker cover. I think the vti might even have bigger 262mm front brakes.

I have a 92 Si myself which I owned since late 2005 and it's now a vastly different car than when I 1st bought it as a runaround instead of hacking up my AMG Merc as my daily. I wont hesistate to buy another Si again as a project car cos I want to be able to fit any type of steering wheel w/o factory srs, and w/out the burden of a sunroof.

IMO i would get the best condition one. its hard finding good condition interior pieces etc. soon enough you will replace the D with the B.

i would choose the car that is in better codition
nice paint/colour,straight body, motor looked after , interior clean , etc
not based on the motors

i own a eg vti luv it to bits , str8 body clean as a whistle interior 2 owners only stripped the top coat and resprayed looks lik its outta d factory.... but lik d oda boys said personal prefernce if ur doing a swap i dont c y u wouldnt jus buy a breeze? i think the most important thing to look for that i would , is as above str8 body , all hard parts intact and clean (no rust etc)

- efi conversion
- rear brake change from drums
- etc..

costs more in the long run

exactly my point....^^^

I have a breeze now..... too much work to convert to B series..

Hence the reason im buying the Si.

I think it's a simple wire that needs hooking up :S

I remember Warren brought his VTI EF to my place, and Lloyd jst soldered some wire up and VTAK was working, lulz.

So I hope it's as easy as that, as i'm going to see that car today too :)

/ Sorry for hijack.

As stated before, it's getting harder and harder to find a clean EG.

No matter of the engine, it'll get swapped anyway. So just go for the clean, Low k EG shell.

And too be frank, you can put up with either SOHC VTAK or DOHC ZC for as long as you have to wait, as they are not gutless compared to a Gl / GLI / Breeze. Just be happy.

Also disk brakes etc..

But still, I'd go VTI, as sunroof is mega win. Even if I wasn't changing the engine, i'd still go VTI.
