hello fellow coupe ppl,

just wanted to know if ur engines are noisy? i have the B16A and there seems to be abit of tapping noise, is this a common thing with honda engines? cus i use to own and FTo and that was very tappy (common fto problem) I DID a search but nothing good came up...lol just wanted to hear ur views. btw i use the original honda oils for the car so i doubt it could be that and regularly check the oil levels...

cheers

Tapping or knocking?!

If it's knocking, did you put in regular unleaded fuel into the car by mistake or something?

Anyway, the answer to your questions is NO.

nah..should be fine..however lots of twin camn honda engines..(older ones) tend to have tapping noises due to their valve clearnce..like my d16a8..adjusted the valve clearence is is much more better and smoother

well, on cold starts my car was really really noisy, like fan belt noise and yeah, sounded like an fto...that might have been b'cause i used to put norm ULP. *shruggs* now after a month or so i splurged on optimax and its 'not as' noisy and runs way smooth!

uumm...no tapping sound for me though.

could be a problem with ur tapets???
Its had to tell if its a normal sound with out hearing it in person, take ur car to a honda specialist ie (in Adeliade Probe) :)

What year and mileage is it? It may even be the timing belt on the way out. I just got my Coupe serviced today and the advisor said the car is over five years old and should think about getting the timing belt replaced. Symptoms can include a tapping noise apparently...any truth in that statement??

car is 99 model and done abt 105000kms...its being looked after by hanny's. i need a second opinion on this sound by a fellow honda owner cus i have always thought honda engines as being noisy...or mayb im jus being abit paranoid??

btw...the timing belt has been changed, and has a new clutch and other crap...

if all come to worse il take it in to hannys for them to look at it.

Take a sound clip of the noise and post it for us, FLY :D

Like I said, my engine makes no noise at all. Runs damn smooth, but then again, that could be due to its very low km's.

On another note, does anyone get a relatively strong 'burnt' smell after a hard run in the car?! It's not a very pungent smell, but just a hint or something that's been burnt...

I had that same problem once cos there was a bit of oil that dripped down the side of the engine when i was topping it up. Then after a run the smell of burnt oil comes into the car

The tapping, when you first start the car from the cold is probably the lack of oil in the top end of the engine. It should dissipate after say 15 - 30 seconds otherwise your oil may be too thin for the age of the engine now? Try perhaps using an oil that is suited to age and km's of your car.
