Hey guys,

I bought an 03 S2k a month or so ago and the 17" wheels on it are not standard or the right offset and really not my style. Anyway after looking at a few wheels and learning about the s2000 unique offset and staggered setup needs I decided buy some stock 16" wheels and paint them up. They are Enkeis afterall and don't look bad in black either. I know I know they are not 17"-19" but I am after performance not bling and I find the smaller wheels with more sidewall perform better for me and ride a bit smoother.

The front are 16x6.5 and the rear 16"x7.5" and come with 205 on the front and 225 rear. I am happy to spend a bit since the rims owe be next to nothing so any advice on size/brand for me?

I plant to lower the car abit too like 1.5" rear and 1" front perhaps?

I was thinking 225 50 16 front and 245 45 16 rear perhaps?

James.

My experience tells me that Bridgestone RE001 is an excellent value for money tyre, one that's worth way more than it cost, lots of grip and linear in it's handling, and it's silent.

Yokohama Advan AD07 more difficult to find locally, kinda noisy, costs more but awesome grip and control for a street tyre, next step is semi's.

I own a RE001 and its a awesoem tyre just for it installed couple of weeks ago and i am loving it so much grip and just a smooth ride.
The car seems to handle better with these then the s03 i had on.

I have those on my 1G CRX very nice tyre. I was thinking of staying with the OEM 205/225 combo.

i have put 245 on the rear, havent had a problem with scraping as well.
The guys love them, rate them much better opposed to having just a 225 on the rear

245 rear on a 7.5 I heard is ok, What can I run on the 6.5 on the front. Perhaps I could go 225 50 16 front and 245 45 16 rear? I like a bit of meat on the sidewalls.

Thanks for the help.

Wow, heavy tyres, say bye bye to straight line acceleration. :(
Do you need 225 and 245? Are you going to be needing absolute grip all the time when not on track?

yea its all relative, in the end everyone has their own preferences,
i myself, although its debated, think most cases, the fatter the better(rims n tyres i mean :p) thats the kind of setup i have on my car anyways, with 265 front and 275 rear. thats not saying its always the best option.

And i cant comment personally on the s2000, only on what my customers have told me and what they prefer(they kept the fronts standard size).

maybe going for a drive with someone else who has this kinda setup on their s2k can help you decide...

I am well confused now. I guess I will stay with the stock sizes recommended for the 16" rim.

TALEB TYRE's advice is good. Go and get a test ride/drive with others with the tyre combination. You'll at least be able to get a feel of the effects of wider tyres. Also, wider tyres are more expensive. If you had a fixed budget, then there could be the case of good narrow tyres outperforming the crappy wider tyres (for the same price)

I am the only person around here with an S2K I know of. Budget is no prob happy to spend for the right tyres. Thanks for the advice though.

Yokohama S-Drives.

Great Dry Handling, Truely Superb Wet Grip and they are very responsive. Rarely give way even when pushed to the limit in a mates DC2 with spring rates that truely test their capability.

Cons; they have fairly stiff sidewalls...so ride comfort is sacrificed a bit for response and effective spring rate.

Cheers,
Andrew

i dunno if my dc2r experience will help, but i have tried many tyres..........and i am only happy with micheline pilot procedure 2..............have them for daily duties, very quite and excellent grip even in the wet.................and they held up very very very well on my track day................
