it all depends on what ur goin for...

i'm the type to put on some nice 15's and good quality tyres that are comfortable but still performs well...

i've seen eg's with 18's and heavily rolled guards...

It depends on what you're trying to achieve. Do you want the biggest possible rims? Best handling? A smooth ride? Everything I have read says you should keep the unsprung weight as low as possible.

My car still has it's stock 13" steel wheels so hopefully someone with more personal experience will reply.

agreed. depends on what u like. and what u want. going bigger than 17's may scrape.
id be getting 15's or 16's and some nice tyres with decent tread.

i think they say 15" was best for performance?? correct me if im wrong
i think its just personal preference ... 17" i think would be biggest recommended without having too much trouble..

im running 16" with 205/45/16 =)

Here's a link that might be useful when choosing your wheel size. It can help you make sure you will be running a similar tire circumference, that way your speedo isn't way off.

If powered by D series engine go 195/50/15
if powered by B series engine go 195/55/15

10mm rolling diameter difference between both

will maximize gear ratios of your particular engine.

I've got 18's on my EG, though I do want to change them later on for some light weight 16's.

Just my personal taste, going for bigger rim size will cause adverse visual impact as it make the brake looks super tiny. It will be difference if you are going to change the brake clipper to 6pots spoon, Brembo or the like.

So true, my brakes have been upgraded, but only slightly bigger than original.

Looks kinda funny with 18's and these tiny little brakes.

I'd rather go some light weight 15's or 16's at the max.

make sure you get the correct offset if you are going or already have lowered you car.
or you may get some scrubbing. i would go 16inch, lighter and if you get a good design actually look bigger than they should be. cheaper on tyres too! :)

i have 18's and my car is lowered, doesnt scrub.... nothing wrong with them yet... haha but prob need more wheel alliignments than most ppl bcoz of it in future.
they quite heavy on the car as they chrome...
though im not looking to make my car into a "faster" car.

Legal - 15" -16"
Defectable - 17" < Bigger +"

Me too.

However I don't find the availability of high performance rubber is the best in this size.

ie tyres with a UTQG of 220ish or lower.

To stay within a couple percent of the OEM tyre size means 17inch rims require really low profile. Not practical if you don't want any legal attention.

The other problem is good (forged), used, 4x100 rims don't come up too often, sigh. We live in a Commodre, Falcon & Skyline world.
