Weird tapping noise from engine bay (ef8)

ok this started last week and has been going on and off since then (mostly on) the noise is like something is hitting the fan, but ive checked and theres nothing loose there.

everytime the car is moving (either in gear or not) i hear a tapping noise from the engine bay, but it only lasts ~5secs, then 5secs off then on etc.

everything else works as normal, no leaks and boost still works. i cant seem to get the exact location of the noise cos i need to be moving.

any help would be great

nah i dont think its the tappets cos arent they constantly tapping??? this is like titititititi...5secs.....tititititititit....5secs. ...tititittiti... etc

alternator shitting itself? but that probably wouldnt make sence for it only to happen when ur moving....
