hello all,
I own a civic fd1 vti, you all know this does not have climate control, however I am planning to buy the climate control off a junk yard, now what do I actually need? the head unit? or do I need a whole new aircon under the bonnet? =S what are the components that I need?

jeez sounds like alot of hassle for little result

i'm pretty sure it would just be the control unit and facia you need to replace. the wrecker you are getting the part from should be able to confirm it

u will need ac head unit, cc wiring loom, and sensors
and plenty of timeand patience to take dash board out and fit new parts

Its not worth the Hassle... you would need alot more than the face plate. There are sensors to detect the temperature, you might need an entire new wiring loom. If you're not that familiar with Auto electrics, don't bother. Its not worth the effort, might as well just fork out extra for a VTi-L

^ ROFLMAO

But yeh to TC, the climate control isn't that important to justify spending so much on doing it yourself. If you have that much time to spare and the financial resources, I'm sure it could be much better used elsewhere.

I cannot comment about the value of retrofitting climate control into a car without it but the difference bet climate control and plain old airconditioning has been worth the money for me. CC is just so much better/nicer comfort wise.

too tell you the truth CC can sometimes be annoying

Mine used to do that when I first bought the car. It would do it once each time I drove, so I would switch it back to recirculate. But after the first 3-5 months, it stopped doing that. Wonder if I broke something.

no idea. my car is a EP3 btw.

but this issue also happens to many cars from other brands as well.

on mine as well... especially when you start the A/C and put it on low (not auto CC) then it smells like exhaust dump!!! I need to leave it on auto for a while (which gives me full on when I set 'Lo' eventhough is 10 degree outside).

Set your CC to recirculate and you won't get the exhaust smell. And Lo means super cold which will set it to max no matter what. I have tested at -1 ºC and Lo will still blow cold air at max fan!

Although a driver could switch to recirculation mode manually, the driver may forget to switch back to outside air mode. By remaining in the recirculation mode, the windows could fog or the carbon dioxide level could increase resulting in a decrease in the oxygen level. Fogged windows and/or a decreased oxygen level in the cabin could compromise the safety of the driver and his or her passengers.
It's not an issue, many vehicles turns off recirculation mode after a while for safety reasons.
Tends to make you feel sleepy usually.

I was thinking that it would cost me about 200 for the cc.. and around 300 - 500 for installation.. so all up it would be only 500 - 700 bux.. I drove my cousins sportivo.. and used that cc.. and it just feels so much better than the old air conditioning..

if aircon is on, the car shouldn't fog up.

i dunno what will kill me quicker, decreasing oxygen or inhaling exhaust fume....

i dunno what will kill me quicker, decreasing oxygen or inhaling exhaust fume....I'm not sure breathing in carbon dioxide when you exhale then having it recirculated permanently is a better option either...

What's wrong with just moving out of the offending vehicles way at the first given opportunity?
I don't see the advantages in having recirculated mode on all the time.
