Hey, does anybody know why/how to fix my broken cigarette lighter?

It looks like its never been used, but when i went to plug in my gps....it wont charge!! (i had to resort to a map!!!) lol. I tried to use that lighter, but it didnt get hot either.

Well, any ideas?

Thanks :D

heck interior fuse box, might have blown a fuse. should either be room fuse or radio fuse i think.

or pull apart the console around it, the wire connector at the back may have fallen off, or it may not be making a good earth.

This may sound stupid, ... but it IS the noob forum. How do i check if the fuse ?

just under the steering wheel there should be a removable panel...

open that and there will be a board of fuses...on the panel that u removed, should be a sticker which outlines what fuse is being used for...

fuses are cheaper than chips...so replacing it shouldn't be a hassle...

if that doesn't do the trick, unbolt the centre console and make sure that it is plugged from behind...

Oh, no no. I know where the fuses are, but how do i actually check if the fuse is broken. Like...the ACTUAL fuse itself?

oh , yea, these fuses are transparent...u can see the middle filament that connects the two pins...if that middle filament is burnt and disconnected then it should be replaced

If theres a gap in the wire between the two pins (looks like 2 antanna's with a wire connecting them). Then that means the fuse is gone. If the wire is still in 1 piece, still intact, then it isnt the fuse.

You can go to a petty station and get a new one (fuse) for like $10 or less

a fuse panel looks like this

http://www.2carpros.com/discovery/images/fuse_panel.jpg

when u figure out from the diagram which fuse is used for the lighter, then pull it out...

(looks like this)
http://www.electronics123.net/amazon/pictures/afu.jpg

notice how u can see a small connecting filament between the 2 pins that pop out of the plastic housing...if this is burnt or disconnected, then just replace that fuse with another thats got the same voltage rating...

the last time i bought a pack of 5 fuses from BP, it cost me like $2...
