Just wondering My 88 Prelude atm has 14 inch rims with 195/60/14 tyres.. i need 2 new ones for my roadworthy (i just brought it) and im wondering if i should just get some diffrent rims/mags i dunno
can i put 15 inch ones? would this effect the roadworthyness of it
are there any other pro's/con's to changing what size wheels i put on it
Are there any other sort of standard rims that would fit it (not mags just rims)
Thanks :)

I think an wheel size increase of up to 2 inches is acceptable by law, the overall diameter of the tyre should not be changed either, as this will affect your speedo accuracy.

This should help

The other thing if using OEM wheels from another make/model is to get the right stud pattern and offset, neither of which I know for Preludes.

thats true though..the 2 inches rule is not law at all..

u can go big as long as it doesnt change ur rolling diameter as u stated! so it doesnt effect ur speedo!

its been done to death....

Here's one i prepared earlier ( 28-03-2005, 02:34 PM )

ok to clear a few things UP:

If u have a engineering cert if the cop want to be a bastard he defect u N E WAY!

Also, there is NO LIMIT to how large ur wheels are SO LONG AS:
THE ROLLING DIAMETER (thats with wheels) doesnt exceed +- 15mm of orriginal
AND
on a FWD car (which we all are) the width of the tire must NOT EXCEED 26mm (approx 1 inch) larger than the OPTIONAL wheel offered by manufacturer for that vehicle (eg car came with 14 x 5 but option of 15 x 6 then u can get 16 x 7 of 17 x 7)

Another from me ( 20-08-2007, 01:28 PM )

Can people stop saying this because this is WRONG. Thats is NOT what the RTA says.

U can put 20's on ur car as long au u get a thin enough profile tire that ur r rolling diamater isnt changed by more than 15mm (although i dont think this is possible with 20s)

Wether or not u get defected or not is up to the officers discretion. Wether or not you'll pass your blue slip depends on the above stated rule.

Also you cant lie to a cop about what size tyre came with ur car. There's a sticker on ur door, and ull get in just as much trouble if u take it off.

Read here for more info on wheel sizes

aimre you make an excellent point.

cops will defect you for anything. I think people believe the 2inch bigger than stock wheel is illegal because cops see the compliance plate and automatically try and apply this rule. i mean really, how often will your average cop work out the rolling diameter of your wheel compared to stock to see if it exceeds the limit?

its alot more efficient for them to say its a 20inch wheel compared to a 15inch stock wheel. heres a defect notice.

yeah but what i would print that thing off from the rta, then even on the back page write out the calculation (even if your rolling diamater is stuffed, just forget to carry over a one or sumtin;);)) Just dont b an ass to the cop.
