Hey all,

Bitt of a dumb question, i want to freshen up my calipers as they are getting really tired....

I want a colour representative of what they were to begin with, so im looking for a champagney sort of colour, but dont know if this colour is available in high temp paint. My questions are

Will high temp brake/engine enamel paint last at track temperatures?

Is UHT/VHT the only brand, can i get a colour other than the standard Gold/Red/Black etc?

cheers

Remember to prep them properly (clean the surface and prime if necessary) why dont you go BLue, would look really good with the yellow car

I am pretty sure they make a variety of colours - most stores should be able to order it in for you if they dont have it.

just took a look at the VHT sight, and the closest there is to what i want is gold, or cast aluminium...

any thoughts on them standing the test of time at track temps?

Also... i remember a while back there used to be a product that was packaged as a brush on product, not spray... anyone have any idea?

It should be ok (I remember reading on the back the max temps it could handle and I think it was pretty good from memory).

What some people do I believe is spray the can into a bucket and then just paint it on with a brush.

hmmm yeh the temp for the brake paint is like 55c and the flame froof one is 1500c.... so not sure which one is appropriate...

i do remember that the bruch on specific stuff actually had a 2 part paint, with a clear coat as well, so im just thinking how much better it would come out...

Hey Zilli,

Was doing some googling with regards to this VHT paint, I would imagine any colour coating in the VHT range would be resistant upto 950Faranheit, converted it to 510Celcius.

I suppose what you would need to find out would be how hot the calipers get on a DC2 around a track for a few laps, although I'd imagine the heat range of 510Celcius would cover this.

With the wear and tear I suppose like all things it would wear/peel over time aswell as if it got hit with rocks/debri off the track/road. Wear/tear time frame would come down to how you applied the paint and preparation time.

Found this site for how to apply the paint and prepare etc.

Goodluck with it, show us some pictures are you have done it :p

Also found this off that speco website

VHT Brake, Caliper, Drum and Rotor Paint has been specifically designed for the custom detailing of brake components.

It is heat resistant to 900ºF (482ºC) and will not chip, crack, fade or rust even under extremes of operation or road and weather conditions. It is easy to apply, dries quickly, and is remarkably resistant. Careful preparation is essential. Brake fluids are often very difficult to remove; VHT Brake Cleaner (SP11) is ideal for this task.

I think ToOLx makes a good point. Not matter what paint you put on, it will eventually get dirty and discolour fade (just consider how dirty your calipers are now).

I had blue on mine. After doing an OP run, mine went green and cracked. But that was on the back of that pad, not the actual caliper, like the pard LD didnt paint http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/customavatars/avatar19072_2.gif
