is it necessary to have a hub centric ring for the rota wheels? anyone here got those?

i was told by a wheel alignment place that i should get a hub centric ring because it puts pressure on the lug nuts...

without hub centric rings all the weight transfers onto your lug nuts rather than being transferred through the hub ring and onto the hub.

im sure you will be fine if you are using a reasonable offset wheel etc. but for extra safety and longevity it would be smart to get the rings. i think you can just go to any wheels place and they should be able to give you a set.

I read somewhere that Hub centric rings are only important during installation of the wheels to help centre the mating surface equally onto the hub surface.

I heard a rumour that it centres the wheel :p

it also helps reduce vibration and makes the contact of the wheel to the hub more solid.

although they make fitting the wheels a hell of alot easier, they also centre the wheel onto the hub, doing a couple things, firstly taking unwanted pressure off the studs, and also centering the wheel reducing vibrations which 99% of them time you WILL get at higher speeds when on highways etc...

they are not expensive and if your buying the wheels from a proper shop, they should supply them free of charge for your specific car as they have to be snug or it defeats the purpose...
just make sure to take them off when putting stockies back on.

edit: haha beat me to it

about the hub rings;
do all hub rings fit or do you need wheel specific hub rings to fit?

You need the right sized hub rings specific to your current hub and the rims that you are fitting. It is denoted by the diameter and the thickness.

how long did you have to wait for them to make it?

if the rota wheels come 73.1, then thats the most common outer size and they should be in stock, not having to be made up...

only 1 way to make sure. take the front and rear wheel off (one side) and test fit em.

shouldn't be the front and rear be the same?

if they're different, then i have to rotate the hub rings too when i rotate the tyres?

^^ Should be, but you never know with the aftermarket rims that you buy :D

Not always the case. Front vs rear hub ID and od maybe slightly different. So its best to take on off either end and find out 100% for sure.

for example , my front is slightly larger than the rear. Why ? because i am running different brakes in teh front from stock and they are slightly different. I have OE honda rims , they sit flush with the rear and are very snug on the front.

tyre shops can source off the shelf hub rings easily from their suppliers. My local bob jane sourced a set of nylon hub rings to suit a fren's Spoom wheels I bought off a trader on this forum.

unless your rota's hub is an unusual size which I doubt it would be, there is no need to get something made up.

the wheel hub sizes are often seventy something mm, and the hub ring steps that down to 56.1mm for common hondas.

I'm sourcing a set of Rotas new from US, and I'm getting the supplier to ship the wheels with the hub rings.
