Ok so the mechanic says to me the best performance when turboing a car basically comes from how quick you can get the power out of the engine, sooooo.. he tells me cams, 2 cam gears and a long life timing belt so once again fellas please help me out, what exactly am i looking for and where?

and NO to long life timing belt unless you got a race car.... i personally don't see the point of a 'long life' timing belt that outlives the waterpump when the waterpump generally dies around 40,000Kms and you usually change em together anyway
***EDIT***
and um.. your post is misleading.. whats this about turbo's?? are you going to turbo and you want the best out of it with cams or you want to beat a turbo car? not many choices in dedicated turbo cams.. but most "stage 1" type cams can be dialled out with cam gears.

cheers on the links, and yes i am in the process of getting my shiz together to turbo, and i wont be racing thought he tells me to replace them considering im doing everything else with the rebuild, so basically you wouldnt touch the cams if turboing?

there is power to be had with the RIGHT cams on a turbo setup... it's a tad tricky to explain so i'm not going to as i don't wanna be misleading the differences in cam profiles for an NA or Turbo car are vastly different and has plenty to do with "overlap"
reason i asked about the turbo thing is coz you posted this in the wrong section... people who frequent the Forced Induction section maybe able to help you more as they may not frequent here often especially with your vague title.
ask/PM any of the moderators (green username) to have this thread relocated here:

as for the timing belt thing.. if you can get a 'long life' one for cheap (i do know where to get the Gates Racing silicon ones cheap if your interested) then go for it... i just think its a waste because you will always pay for the same amount of labour cost to change the waterpump and/or timing belt... best to do the factory schedule of around 40,000km to change the waterpump and belt instead of waiting till either dies.. it'll keep your engine alive longer ;)
sure your uber strength timing belt will last over 100,000kms... but whats the point when your still paying say $200 everytime your waterpump dies and they need to keep taking your belt on and off to do it anyway?
the timing belt + waterpump + tensioner + tensioner bolt usually comes in a kit for significantly cheaper than buying each seperately:thumbsup:

i disagree and i will say a toda timing belt or another high strength timing belt will be the best insurance for your motor.. you pay 180$ which can save you thousands later on ..... b series are interference engines and if you snap a timing belt from missing a gear or downshifting accidently etc... you will bend your valves... spend an extra 120 or so over a regular timing belt just for that peice of mind

^^^you know.. i just noticeda pattern... your a BIIIIIG Toda fan huh?
a lot of setups wether na or turbo in excess off 300whp still use OEM belts... for what he's doing he should ask and look around in the forced induction forum and look at everyone elses setup.
timing belt snapping isn't an issue if you change it at its proper intervals. if i had an electric waterpump and installed a bypass plate on the stock location then i would get a silicon timing belt as i would never ever need to open that area again.. just as the full blown race cars...

if your turboing your car i would just stick with the stock cams first. Its gonna be less trouble to setup & tune. You only get better cams and stuff if your gonna try to squeeze everything out of your engine.
Timing belt OEM or a good reputable one. I know gates & toda are pretty good.

I do wanna get the full potential out of my engine at the right cost of course, this will all cost me around the 15k mark as thats the honest truth, so to spend like 1000 more isnt gonna hurt if i can get better and better

well i dnt know any other brand timing belts... if you read properly i said toda timing belt or any other high strength timing belt...
i dnt know about you but i would never cheap out on something as important as a timing belt on a motor build... one day if you snap your timing belt you will say i wish i bought a high strength timing belt... but hey do what pleases ..what would i know ayy

OEM Belt will be fine for what you'll be doing.
OEM Cam is very under appreciated. Theres plenty of stock honda engines with simple/moderate turbo setups just strapped on that are making good reliable power. They also have good OEM style driveability because of the stock cam.
Changing the cam is a big decision and shouldn't be taken lightly. It governs the characteristics of the entire engine.

well i was gonna buy these http://got-jdm.com/skunk2-bseries-dohc-vtec-race-camshafts-b16a-b18c-turbo-stage-p-234.html
but i accidentally bought the wrong ones off ebay all the specs were the same the only thing different was the fact it didnt have turbo written in the add. so cut a long story short was going to cancel the purchase and the bloke from evans tunning told me that they discontinued the turbo ones because when tunned were actually underpowering the engine, (didnt know how to word it) so now im back to square one.

When in doubt go with OEM.
Even if its OEM from a b18c ... ;)

high strength one for 0-9200 rpms and beyond loll woot woot
he's doing a turbo setup
1 - smaller turbos choke at a lower rpm because they spin at a far higher rpm to produce the same boost level as a bigger turbo = no high rpm fun
2 - hondas generally use a decent sized turbo due to the hi cam profile
3 - um.. what daily driven turbo honda setup even goes past 9000rpm?
4 - an NA or turbo setup that makes its most usable powerband in 8000rpm+ isn't even 'streetable'. if your making power that high it better be A LOT
5 - on a vtec honda or any other nugget for that matter, the reason you want to turbo is the lowend/midrange torque.. not to be revving high.
well i was gonna buy these http://got-jdm.com/skunk2-bseries-dohc-vtec-race-camshafts-b16a-b18c-turbo-stage-p-234.html
as per the add, if your not gonna change the valvetrain or boost past 10+psi get the turbo stage 1s.
Alternatively the BLOX cams are exact chill cast replicas of the skunks and are cheaper

guessing your not going to install this all yourself?
best thing to do would be to:
- think how much power you want versus budget
- where you want your powerband
- who is going to put it together for you
- and who that workshops recommended tuner is.
at the end of the day no point spending cash on a setup that doesn't work well together and you end up spending twice or three times on certain items just to get it right... some of just wanna learn the hard way i guess :/

yer your really funny... the guy said he wants to do it once do it properly and i was giving him advice... yur just a big wanker thats all...
if he wants to listen to me he will get a high strength timing belt... he might spend $100 extraa butt its just that extra bit of security and insurance for the motor... dnt be tight assess sure oem is strong dnt get me wrong but its not as strong as the hight strength timing belts... end of the day its his car i know i always do things properly the first time and i got a high strength timing belt...

unless you rebuild the entire engine, there is no use getting higher revving cams.
High RPM kills motors faster. Boost also kills motors faster.
So the higher RPM + boost will not last very long unless you spend alot of $$$ rebuilding it.
Also your gonna need to keep rebuilding it every so often. IF you've got the $$ go for it, but that doesn't mean that it might not go up in a puff of smoke.
but on the point of the timing belt extra strength is not a bad thing if you have the extra $$ to spend on the parts......
