are all tailights for the civic coupe (96 97 98 99 00) the same? i am about to purchase some aftermarket jdm style tailights and it says 96-00 but then its got 97 98 99. are they all the same anyway?
in other words will 96 fit 97 fit 98 fit 99??? i drive a 96
I believe 96-98 are interchangeable with 99-00... The style is however different. Your original one is the one with the orange i.e. pre-facelift. However the ones with red top and white bottom are the face lift(99-00) ones.

i dont care about the style just as long as they fit. i bought them now so its either they fit or i make them fit....

ok so i have the tailights installed. however there is now a problem...
when i apply the brake - both brake lights and blinker lights turn on
so when im indicating then apply the brakes you cannot see that im indicating...
why would this be?
should i maybe disconnect battery and see if that fixes it?
O LOL.. so it's like a light leak from the brake compartment going into blinker one? I think that is the problem you are describing. Perhaps.

dont lol.... its not funny (if your trying to drive behind me)
yer i was just gunna see if anyone else had this problem! i also find that when i put my left blinker(or right) that the opposite one blinks reeeeeeealy faintly....
hey i tried to help solve the problem... so it's not what i said? A light leak between the brake light compartment and the blinker one? But hmm now you said the opposites blink too... maybe check the wiring, since both light on could be some sort of interference/wire-touching. It can't be the new housing causing the problem since the bulbs/wire have nothing to do with the housing. Did it happen before?

it only started happening when i installed the new tailights... like you said i think its shorting somewhere. so i goto check it out..
nothing ever works first time for me!!!
maybe try removing bulbs from the housing and see how they light up to perhaps pinpoint the problem.

hey i had the same problem as you.. when you hit the brakes your blinker lights light up and so when you brake and signal ppl behind cant tell your signalling coz the blinkers are fully lit up and not flashing right?
just swap the old wiring from your stock rear lights to the new set.
