vtec mode

Hey all
Just a quick question. Generally when vtec is engaged in n/a motors the vtec cam is louder.

In my car with boost the vtec cam is quieter. Anyone know why?
Its good cos the car rips like crazy & you can't hear me coming, but i was just wondering why i would get less noise

it's coz of the turbo... the 'spooling' of air in the housings muffles air resonance.

it's also why cannon exhausts are hell quiter on turbo cars.

hmmm ok sounds good. I always knew that the turbos muffled noise through housing but i didn't think it did it whislt in vtec cam.

In low cam is still fairly noisy. Only changes when vtec kicks in at about 5.5k rpm

-Na motor, stock intake, piping resonator etc. Vtec roar = quiet to moderate.

-Na motor, aftermarket good flowing pipes. Vtec roar = Loud

-Turbo motor, lots of pipes and bends, through turbo, through intercooler = Vtec roar quiet.

Thats one thing us turbo boys miss is the ROAR!!! But we have spool/whine, Bov and wastegate dump.

i thing the external gate makes up for vtec loss of sound..............sceamer pipe all the way.........

but deanno is right, as a na car, u only have a filter and one pipe to throtle body, with turbo, u have intake, then turbo, cooler pipe, cooler, the cooler pipe to throtle body

lol, nah its just that the car is quieter in vtec than it is under vtec with boost

every B-series turbo i've heard is pretty quiet... the K series are an exception though....

shoul write to the EPA and tell them all b series need boost to quieten them down LOL

Ive never heard a loud vtec crossover on a k series if thats what you're talking about.
