hey all,
i have taken my sub out and decided i dont want to run it anymore, and atm the i got four splits running and its just too much treble, so i was thinking as an alternative to not having a sub, i was going to change my rear speakers to either a mid bass sub by kicker(6.5 inch), or get some good mid bass speakers, either jbl or mtx.
the mid bass sub by kicker would it sound good with the splits at the front. considering my interior is so small?
jbl product code : GTO637 6 INCH 3 WAY 180 WATT
mtx product code:THX603 Speakers 6 IN 3 WAY 260W
kicker product code: SSMB6 6.5" Midbass Woofers
thanks

i have custom mounts in my factor door location that give me a bit extra mounting depth... these are just thicker replicas of the oem purchased from ebay...
exact ones i purchased:
http://cgi.ebay.com/6-Speaker-Adapter-Honda-86-95-CRX-CIVIC-93-97-Del-Sol_W0QQitemZ310073747721QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item3 10073747721&_trkparms=72%3A1071|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A13 18&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&timeout=1218636325529 (http://cgi.ebay.com/6-Speaker-Adapter-Honda-86-95-CRX-CIVIC-93-97-Del-Sol_W0QQitemZ310073747721QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item3 10073747721&_trkparms=72%3A1071%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C 240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&timeout=1218636325529)
- running components in the door so.. 6.5in woofer, active crossover and tweeters... on the rear just running 6.5in splits.
- 4x100wrms Amp in the boot running all 4 corners and all wiring tucked in under the centre console to rear plastic area.
- amp is setup in HPF for the rear splits so no bass coming out of them.. gives clearer mid/highs as its right next to the ears anyway. HPF frequency crrossover is matched to speakers effective mid/high range
- fronts amp channels are not filtered as the crossovers are handling frequency distirbution between woofer and tweeter. LPF and HPF crossover frequencies are setup on the amp to eliminate most of the midrange outputting... this ensures crisp bass only coming from the woofers and highs coming from the tweeters.
setup is very crisp inside with very clear bass due to the small interior... the moment i have all 3 windows open bass is greatly reduced... at the end of the day it just means i can enjoy music to myself without pissing people off outside when my windows are down... doesn't give the fully hectic look...
a bit weird setting up a proper sound stage for the del sol coz the rear speakers are so close to the ears... do reslly my sound staging is backwards...
on normal 4-door cars the bass is usually at the rear with your mid/high components stuff setup at the front.

yeah man... i pretty much have it set up like that. i have my splits at the front and rear, but because i got no sub, its just too much treble. so was looking at replacing my rear speakers with something that may be able to play a bit more bass, without having to get 6x9's as we have already figured out in del sols its alot of work lol.
not sure i got my amp tunead the same way as yours, i may try that if i can. its a 4x100w rms amp from jaycar
my components are at the front woofer tweeter and crossover. so are you saying they should be in my rear and a speaker that plays a bit more bass in the front???
the rears were component speakers but i dont have the tweeter and crossover hooked up, so its just the woofer

your setup sounds fine.
makes me wonder though how you fit the woofer of the components in the rear.. theres like no mounting depth available there hence why i only put 2-way splits in the rears pumping no bass.

oh ok.
yeah man, i dunno.. somehow i got em in.
they dont go that deep.
i did it sorta dodge because i could screw them in.. i used zip ties.. but they dont move and there is no rattle what so ever.

^^^lol.. i wanna see pics.
coz the 6.5in components i got in the door had a really deep woofer, 9cm mounting depth.
i reckon honestly setup your bass at your doors, highs at your tweets and just change the rears to 2/3-way splits for the rear factory monting bracket.. it's got like a 4cm mounting depth coz of the stupid angle and curved cover.

ill take the covers off on the weekend and ill take a photo..
how do i tune my amp so that the bass is at the woofer, and highs at my tweeters.. if my amp setting on has a hp lp or full setting, and a crossover filter??

set the amp with the filter off and change the crossover frequencies for both lp and hp according to your woofer and tweeter range.. ie:
- raise hp x-over on the amp to the starting frequency range of your tweets
- lower lp x-over on the amp to the ending frequency range of your woofer.

okay thanks.
ill try it this arvo.
im pretty sure my jaycar amp only has a switch to use whether i want full, hp or lp, then a crossover thing and gain.. i might have to use my alpine which has hp frequency change, lp and gain???
i dislike tuning lol

your jaycar will have it...
tuning is the fun part.. tryna compromise between different music styles that you'd listen to.
before you do any tuning set all your deck EQs to 0

yeah.. coz basically its only got the option of hp or lp, i cant tune both.. but if i bridge the speakers that would work..
i think.
once again dont know much about bridging.
