I can't seem to find any information on Pedal Modification in NSW/Sydney? (I've done searches)

Where does the RTA stand on Pedal modification?

I want to get a set of Mugen Pedals for my Prelude and am being a tad cautious because of insurance reasons... (What if some guy runs into me and his insurance doesn't cover me cause I got "dangerous" pedals...)

i gotta find it but i did read one as an ADR.

the main point was that it can't be bare metal due to risk of slippage when you have wet shoe soles.

this is very reasonable in the following scenario:
- rainy day
- you lockup and ABS kicks in
- due to ABS bounce your feet slip off
- you hit whatever is in front of you.

cars that already come with metal pedals u be able to get aftermarket metal pedals... cars that come stock with rubber pedals it is illegal to put aftermarket metal pedals

The pedals are not actually bare metal, only the accelerator is bare metal... I wonder if this matters?

they need a certain percentage of RUBBER/other material. Can't just be a different feel/texture to the metal.

at least thats what a cop told me anyway.

So from the above picture, the Clutch and the brake pedal may be legal but not the accelerator...

(You gotta hate these guys that get themselves into crashes and sues Honda because Honda used and placed Pedals that was absolutely perfect fro Heel & Toeing back in 1987 in the 3rd generation Prelude... The Pedals in the 3rd gen are really close together and accelerator is large, absolutely perfect for Heel & Toeing)

Wonder how insurance would act if someone were to hit my car...

Do they even check your car? Like as in the other person's insurance if it were their fault...

not to be dodge but if you were on 3rd party and not at fault they rarely check if at all.

just to let you kow though, back int he days when i used to drive a cop magnet, the 3 things they always checked are:

- gear Knob for H pattern
- Steering wheel if horn works
- PEDALS

God I really hate these god forsaken stock 5th gen Prelude Pedals... Can anyone recommended me some pedals which are actually legal?

I loved my 3rd gen Pedal setup so much...

just mod the metal pedals you got there.

Some descent super glue and some nice rubber pieces from spotlight/bunnings/crazyclarkes (maybe not CC's) and you could have some good looking, unique, legal, non-OEM pedals.

Wrong, because you can buy metal pedals as an optional accessory from the Honda dealer for base or luxury model Euros with which come stock with fuil rubber pedals.

Thanks for the heads up

So if I did buy these Mugen Pedals, do you guys reckon there would be a problem if I got into an accident and it was my fault? Do you think my insurance company may not pay the other party because of something like 'Mugen Pedals'?

trust me on this... where money is involved, an insurance company will find any excuse to not payout.. not worth it for a $50 rice mod.

i've previously been in 3 accidents all not my fault while on 3rd party insurance.. absolute pain in the arse trying to get money back, lodging through court.. taking pics of damage, going back to location taking pics etc.

shitty thing about 3rd party is that if your not at fault you have to deal with the others insurer all by yourself.. seriously not worth the hassle...

here just buy these, their cheap:

just get fully comp insurance, dont know why you clowns tool around with just 3rd party. In a accident they are more likely to look at what you were doing prior to the accident rather than asking you to recreate some Best Motoring foot work video

Some "clowns" can't afford it...

I think Third Party Property is an absolute must and you're a fool if you don't have it but Compo is not...

rule of thumb generally i guess is that if you own a car worth less than $8k don't bother with comprehensive as you could buy your car again within only a couple of years

agreed i looked it up before. Usually has to have rubber contacts to be legal. But i know some dumb cops still pull you over for 'Not standard' crap

How would these fit the Mugen Pedals though?

Edit: Oh are they like little rubber cylinders that you put into the holes?

They don't fit mugen ones, they have nothing to do with mugen pedals. These are Type R Pedal covers, that picture you see is just a rubber insert for the Type R pedals.

Dun think type R pedals will fit the Prelude as easily as Mugen ones do

geeang

From the picture you posted in this thread, the size and shape of the pedals are the same in DC2/EG/EK/Prelude. Two small pedals for clutch and brake, long rectangular pedal for accelerator, since the type r covers are made to the same size as these pedals they'd fit perfectly.

All you need to do is go to www.strutking.com, the link is right in the corner of the picture of the rubber insert.

Oh and unless Mugen pedals come with some sort of rubber grip inserts/strips for the brake and clutch, they're pretty much illegal for your car since you're stock pedals aren't bare metal.
The accelerator is fine, just the brake and clutch need some sortof of rubber/grip pad because slipping off the accelerator isn't a problem.

Yep, but its not enough in the eyes of the law, they need proper rubber grip pads as thats what the car came with stock.
