Disclaimer: The following is provided as a GUIDE ONLY, and neither myself nor Ozhonda take any responsibility for the outcomes of someone else doing the following. You follow these steps at your own risk!

Tools Required
1. Honda Civic Eg
2. Wire Stripper + Kit
3. s2000 Start Button
4. (Optional) Double Din - Sex Factor
5. Screwdriver

Method
1. Locate your under dash cover (underneath your steering wheel ==;; ), remove the three screws.

2. Presented in front of you is your fuse box, probably some stereo wires for dodgy factor and possible alarm system (get one, do it!).

3. Locate the following plugs. These are the two main plugs which operates your ignition. This means you still need a key for the steering wheel yo!

http://suijin.amestris.com/Honda Civic Guide/07082008(004).jpg

4. Alright we'll start with the second image. The top image displays a plug from the ignition to a portion above the fuse box. With two wires. exiting and entering. One wire being white the other being black and white strip.

5. Strip a part of the black and white wire or slice it apart if you wish to disable key start completely. (Please not do not slice unless you've fully tested its functionality.)

6. Now the first image. The plug has three wires, yellow, white with black strip and black with yellow strip. Start stripping the black with yellow strip wire. (Do not slice - Beware this wire contains a constant 12V therefore do not let it touch bare metal).

7. Alright hoping you have yours s2k button all ready (If you require some help setting up your s2k button message me and i'll post a DIY).

8. On your s2k button there will be three wires leading out of the fuse. 2 Red and 1 Black. Red (30) and Red (87) Black (86).

9.
Red (30) leads to the wire stripped/sliced on the second image. (Black w/ White Strip.)
Red (87) leads to the wire stripped on the first image. (Black w/ Yellow Strip.)
Black (86) grounding, attached this to any metal close by. (Underneath the steering wheel one of the steering wheel cover screws will be fine.)

10. Input your key turn til all electronics are on. This also disables steering lock etc. Test your start button.

Setup example with double din...

Anyone living in Melbourne feel free to message me to request help on setting this up locally.

Ignore the extra masking tape, I removed my factory alarm system cause the old owner lost the remote for it.

if u sliced as written yes, if you didn't and just tapped it would start.

you can do this on any car. Just need to find the correct wires to tap the button into.

It's possible on ANY car, as long as you find the correct wires and you have a mounting point for it.

anyone ?? where can i buy a button?

Where would you mount it on my EG because i don't have a double din console...

Option A: You could pull out your cigarette lighter and mount it there.

Option B: Perhaps in 1 of the panels beside your steering wheel, you would just have to drill a hole big enough

(Recommend option A)

anyone ?? where can i buy a button?

Option A: Alot of the traders here on ozhonda do stock and supply them, PM a couple of them and see what you can find. (A few of them might even be willing to source the parts for you.)

Option B: Ebay has a few, but mainly in America and with the way the economy is these days they will probably cost a bit. (But worth a try.)

Hope this helps you both out and anyone else with the same questions.

heh, nice DIY,
i was going to do this with a push-on (not push-on/off) switch from jaycar, does anyone know the amp rating at 12V the switch needs to be?

edit: i've found a really slick looking spst momentary switch thats rated 8A at 125VAC. would this be enough? link (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=SP0755&keywords=push+on+switch&form=KEYWORD)

edit: i did it today with that switch and it works fine! :D

the ek has markings on the back of the key barrel for the wires, for bat, acc, IG(2A), ST and another one which i didnt see...all i did was run a line from battery-switch, and switch to ST (starter motor). works awesome. a nice bit of bling!

another question, does anyone know the configuration of the barrel, eg. is it possible to use missile switches for accesory and ignition position and only use the key+barrel for immobiliser purposes?

It would be possible.. But I not sure the RTA would be happy about it, as I am not sure this kind of setup is allowed in a road legal car.. I could be wrong and if I am someone can set me straight.

i cant see why it wouldnt be

it has nothing to do with the roadworthy of the car.......

yeah, i dont think it would be illegal.
i guess more specifically, would it be bad to have the key in the acc position (so you could turn the wheel) and a switch connecting the ignition wire at the same time.

i might not end up doing it anyway, the more i think about it, the more i think it might be an annoyance.

anyway pics from my install.

can a fd1 start button be used for this DIY?

redefine
16-03-2009, 09:49 AM
you can use whatever start button you like, as long as its a momentary switch, and theres a spot to mount it

I have recently done this instal into my EG.. I put it in place of the cigi lighter.. But at the same time I have kept the cigi lighter wired up and hanging freely out the back of the centre console (where the aircon vents go to your feet).. Soon ill make a perm housing for it behind there and it isnt just flopping about.. Reason for keeping it was for portable GPS.. Will take some pics as soon as I get a chance for all to see..
