depends i think your using a dseries engine gearbox would need to be changed...

firstly, research on this site re swaps. you will VERY soon realise that gearboxes can only be matched to that particular series of engine.

researching also helps u with cost estimates.

mechanic sounds like an idiot, don't use him
you've got an ek1 which is a d series motor, your gonna need a b series box to put in it with the b16.

your mechanic doesnt know about hondas. obviously.
if you have a d series engine, you will need to change to a b series gearbox if you put a b series engine in.
then theres a number of other things that need to be changed, hence why its easier to buy a front cut and take everything out of it and swap it into your engine bay.
5000 is a pretty good price for a workshop to put a b16 in if its including the front cut.
for reference-

b16 front cut = $3000 - 3500 unless you got connections or a good deal
backyard/friend install - $1000 give or take a bit
workshop install - probably around $2000

remember our discussion a while ago about mechanics... this is one of those reasons why i hate mechanics

I have to say though your probably the only mechanic i know of that makes sense and in the know :)

as I've mentioned in the other thread.
your D series is OBD1, B16a is OBD 2. so besides gearbox needed to be changed, you need to change engine mounts, wiring loom conversion, compressor bracket and radiator hoses (especially the top ones)

LOL @ 2.5k.

Honbits is right on with there pricing. A tad on the rich side tho.

B16a into EK can be done for around 4k.
